summer inspiration: 1948

Good morning, friends! I’ve got some more lovely inspiration for you: from 1948! (I realize last week was 1947–maybe next week I’ll include some from 1949 and we can just continue to work through the years? lol.) I’m loving some of these looks perfect for sunshine-drenched days (which today is not… sadly!). Enjoy!

I am completely smitten with those green, high wedges! Well, maybe not the double straps, but the color! (Which remind me a bit of the Remix Lido wedges…)

Interestingly the blue denim jeans on the left retailed for $3 in 1948, which would only be a little less than $27 today. I guarantee you those were much better quality than any $30 pair of jeans you’d find now! I love the border print blouse the model is sporting too!

Do I ever tire of sharing nautical looks with you? Nope! I love the lacing detail on the center blouse, and the striped shorts on the right!

I’m a bit sad this ad isn’t in color–be sure to read the descriptions of the color schemes this outfit came in! I think colorways “a” and “c” appeal to me most… They sound so lovely!

I’m not sure I’d wear these ruffled swimsuits (the ruffles are at the wrong spot for me! hehe!), but they sure are darling. Plus they show the continuing trend of the “faux bustle” that was popular in the late 1940s (shown in last week’s post).

The shoes are so pretty from the 40′s. My grandmother really loved the style of them. She said “they were comfortable and pretty. You could wear them with anything”. Today, it’s hard to get one pair of shoes to work with most of your wardrobe. They are either to dressy, or too causal. Which really makes it temping to buy one great pair from remix to go with dresses, skirts, shorts. I think it may be worth it.

Oh my goodness, Casey–those shoes! I don’t know, I love vintage clothing, but somehow it’s the shoe ads that get me every time. Maybe it’s the bright color–it’s like candy. I do love the outfits on those kite-flyers, too.

Oh man, those shoes. Everything from the wedges to the kite-flyer’s canvas shoes to the bathing beauty’s sandals– I want ‘em all! I got a kick out of how even the ‘flat’ wedges were drawn with that high-heeled, foot curves-and-curves-again look. So cute, and so 40′s.

Those shoes! If only a cute pair of wedges was still $3 today!

Yes, I agree I don’t really want a “look at my bum HERE” ruffles. lol Although I do quite love the ruffled blouse in the Junior First ad!

I adore all of those wedges, sigh! If only. Although earlier today I saw these more modern wedges that kind of remind me of the multi-colored ones in the top right ad. They’d be really fun for summer, I think! http://www.modcloth.com/shop/shoes-wedges/water-ice-wedge

I love this sort of period – it’s definitely inspired by new look fashions but at the same time it has a definite 1940s look. So lovely!

Also, green wedges are my weakness ;)

I’ve been wanting some shoes in that green color. I found some T-straps from ModCloth that are tempting me. Those bathing suits are so cute!

Wow, I would wear any one of those Buskens shoes but I’m completely with you on the green ones! I have a distinct lack of kelly green shoes in my collection which I’ll have to remedy post haste!

I adore the colors the tri-color outfits came in as well- it would be fun to try and re-create them! Thanks for sharing! I’m so ready to stop sewing the 1890s ball gown and work on fun summer things since summer is so fleeting here!!

You could walk into any shoe dept tomorrow and see the same styles of those shoes right now in 2012!!! I love them all and remember having some like that in the 70′s! Everything comes back around.
I love all the clothes, especially the first 2 pics. Did you notice how skinny the one girl is flying the kite…..wow. I don’t think thats going to come in my size and I’m not even overweight. Thanks for sharing the 40′s, can’t wait for the next era!

The shoes are definitely my fave. They remind me of Miss L Fire ones, although I assume they are cheaper!

I adore the idea of working through the years – that’s got my vote for sure! :) These images are total gems. I adore late 40s/early 50s fashions beyond measure, thanks so much for sharing this abundance of warm weather inspiration.

Wishing you a stellar Tuesday, dear gal!

Have you seen B.A.I.T. Footwear? They have some wedge sandals in kelly green that just scream Forties (cost a lot more than $3 though…)
