Wanna see something that I did over the weekend?

Need a better view?

Dear readers, I did it… I jumped on the bang (fringe for others!) bandwagon after bowing to all the bang peer pressure that seems to be going ’round lately. (Fleur and Gina I’m looking at you! And now I see that the lovely Andi also cut her fringe just before me. Darn–I’m always the last one to the party! lol.) It’s something I’ve been going back and forth on for a couple years, and really felt the need to change things up a bit with my hair lately. I’ve had long bangs since I was in my mid teens, and had the same basic haircut (just varying lengths) for most of my adult life. After turning 27 earlier this month, I decided it was about time to spice things up! Can I just say, I love how the bangs look?!

There was a bit of discussion on Facebook after I mentioned in passing I was contemplating the chop, whether I should cut the bangs or not, with strong opinions on both sides. But in the end, I think it was fun to do–even just for once! My hair grows incredibly quickly, so if I end up hating the upkeep, it won’t be too long until the front section is long enough to sweep back into the rest of my hair. But as of right now I love it! (Have I mentioned that yet? hehe!) For those that are wondering, yes I cut the bangs myself (Aya’s video was especially helpful). I rarely get my hair cut in a salon (about once a year), and bangs are so easy to do at home with a proper pair of hair shears. (Which were super cheap.) I also bought a small barrel curling iron (3/4″) to curl the ends under daily. Basically I just let it heat up while I’m doing my makeup in the morning and by the time I get round to my hair, it’s ready to go! Easy!
One thing I’m excited about is trying out some vintage hairstyles with my new bangs! I’ve been digging through my picture archives and finding a lot of cute looks I can’t wait to try–and share with you! If you’d like some visual inspiration for vintage ‘dos with bangs, I have a post here and made a new Pinterest board.
Hooray for the vintage bang!

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I have bangs envy! I have a dratted cowlick right smack in the middle of my forehead which causes any and all bangs to split down the middle. Harumph! Griping aside, I think you look gorgeous and I love the new look. I can’t wait to see what you come up with!
Love it! I’ve had my fringe for a year and a half now and I am still in love with it!
i really love this style on you; it was made for your face
You even look a little like my Patti Playpal doll; she’s got a fringe (bangs) very similar.
oh darn. I just managed to grow mine out….at the moment they are the annoying length of..not long enough for in a pony tail but long enough for behind the ear where they just wont stay. I’ve been debating with myself if I should cut them again….I hated them when I had them (I have a darn cowlick that just makes them look stupid if I don’t do big style hairtreatment on them every morning) and now that they are gone I kind of want them back. You were my role model the whole time…..the one with the super cute vintage harrstyles but with out the bang.
Now I guess I really do have to cut them again.
Oops! Sorry to be the influencer for bang cutting! hehe!

How fun!!
Lovely Casey!
What does the embroidery on your t-shirt say? Love that too!
It says “Lady”; I did it a few years ago as kind of a tongue in cheek take on the vintage sweaters that have names on them.
You can read more about it here.

The link to Aya’s video is your own blog post and not the video link.
Thanks for letting me know–it’s been fixed!

Oh Casey, your new fringe/bangs suits you so well! I’m glad you took the plunge, its great to mix it up a bit. Good luck on trying out some fringe-related styles (and please share with us too!)
Wow, you really look stunning with those bangs! About a year or 3 ago I got them cut too. And I loved it! The only annoying thing is that it always splitted in the middle. So eventually I got tired of it and decided to let them grow back. That’s been a year ago and I still miss my bangs! (I’ve got sideway bangs now).
But really, you look adorable! And I can’t wait to see your new hairdo’s (just so I can copy them, hehe. If it’s good, it’s good!)
I think these bangs are really flattering on you…and you have such a great head of enviably thick, thick thick hair…you look really cute. You’re really lucky and blessed that you have so much hair to work with for those lovely curls. On second thought, I did like that ‘roll’ you did a while back…that looked so runway trendy, but it was fun, something I think would be fun to do at a wedding.
Aw, thank you!
I know everyone goes on and on about how thick my hair is, but come July and August here, it’s a real pain since it also traps in a lot of body heat! lol. (Thank goodness for braids and bun styles! rofl.)

You look beautiful!! It must be fun.
ps. I believe you accidentally put the wrong link in for Fleur… just wanted to let you know! and I think your hair is darling :]
Oh golly… I’m just full of little flub-ups today! :p lol. Fixed the link! (And note to self not to edit posts when I’m tired!

There’s something about hair chopping in the air! I just cut a good 5 or 6 inches off my length, sometimes its good to do a drastic change. Im glad my hair is reigned in to something I can control better
now contemplating growing those out…oh, the things we do to our hair!
I did Aya’s bangs a couple of years ago! Then I grew out half and kept a lighter fringe
You look beautiful and I think you did a fantastic job! Bangs really add a little something extra to so many hair styles, and when you pull it all back it makes updos not look so severe. Great job!
Hooray for hair change-ups!
Isn’t it fun sometimes to get a lot cut off? I had about 10″ taken off last fall and it was lovely to not have to wrangle with so much hair for a bit.
Softening updos was one of the motivations behind giving bangs a serious thought; I’ve been wearing my hair up a ton lately, and just got tired of how the front was always looking so… bare. lol. Much better now!

Yay bangs! I think they look lovely on you!
And I was just thinking about this sweater of yours. I have a blouse I’ve got set aside for some embroidery but have been stumped at to what to embroider on it. Might have to borrow your genius idea.
Thank you, lady!
I love adding embroidery to random pieces of things in my wardrobe. Even though this one is super simple design-wise, it’s still a favorite. I’ve got a red silk blouse that I thrifted (very 80s does 40s silhouette) that I’m itching to use this 40s transfer on I picked up a couple years ago. Though I’d really like to bead it, but I can’t for the life of me figure out a color scheme that isn’t going to look too flashy with the bright red silk.
lol.

Can’t believe you did this yourself, it looks fab! You must be so pleased
I commented about this on one of your Pinterest pins, but I suspected you were in for the chop when you started pinning all of those lovely vintage bangs!
They look absolutely awesome on you, I really and truly love the look on you! I had bangs for years and years (always cut them myself too), but once I started getting into vintage fashions I felt a bit limited with style options for some reason. I never thought it looked very good on me unless it was pulled back at the sides, which got a little ho-hum (I also wasn’t that good at styling my hair then either which was part of the problem, lol!). However you have such gorgeous thick hair which adds marvelously to it. It suits you just so well, Casey! You are making me pine for my old bangs, oh no!! Sometimes I do think my forehead is better suited for bangs… ack.
Can’t wait to see what great vintage-inspired styles you come up with for your new snappy ‘do!
Whoops, I made the comment on Twitter. Teaches me to post comments before caffeine!
Thank you!
You were correct to suspect when the Pinterest-spam started! hehe! I think I wanted to make sure that I could come up with other looks before I cut it all off. (Though oddly I’ve worn it down pretty much every day since I cut the bangs; which is unusual for me! But I guess now that my hair isn’t constantly in my eyes, being down isn’t so bad…
)
Hopefully I’ll come up with some exciting ‘dos soonish!!!
♥ Casey
Ohhh, I love it! I think you look darling with bangs! They’re such a fun way to change up a hair style without too much of a drastic cut. I’ve had bangs on and off for a while, mostly longer ish 60′s bangs, but I’ve always wanted to try the short fringe. Can’t wait to see it with different styles
xo,
Em
I love the longer, 60s bangs look–but I could probably never pull them off properly. :/ So I’m envious of gals who can!!!
♥ Casey
Lovely, you new fringe really suits you…although I suspect any hairstyle will look good on you ;o) 10/10 for bravery…can’t believe you cut it yourself, and did such a professional job!
Thank you ever so much!!! I admit I was a little scared when I started to chop it myself, but once I started, I couldn’t go back. hehe! (Always the best way to get me to do something “scary”!
)
♥ Casey
Oh Casey, the bangs look so fabulous on you! I wish I was brave enough to try a similar look, but I think I’m still scarred from my two-year long bang grow-out phase as a pre-teen.
You know, after I read this, I remembered going through something very similar at about the same age. And now I remember how much of a pain it was! (Although I had much thinner bangs then; I didn’t have them cut as far back. But it was the 90s, what can I say? Those wispy bangs were “in”.
)
♥ Casey
ACK, they look SO GOOD on you! You have the perfect face for this kind of bang – and I’m totally jealous of the rest of your hair, it looks so thick & healthy and shiny & the color is just gorgeous. Pretty lady!
Aw, thank you!!!
Funnily enough, this color is half my own, and half of the red henna I dyed it with over 18 months ago! (This stuff is long wearing!) lol. I’m hoping to go a bit blonder this year after going to the beach a bit more often, since my hair tends to lighten a lot with some good sunshine.
♥ Casey
LOVE them
I’ve had mine for a few years now. Everytime I think of growing them out, I seem to find myself cutting them again
They really do add instant style!
Wow, that new looks works great for you! I really like it even though I´m not a huge fan of bangs in general.
I just get my hair bobbed after years and years of super long hair and I know the joy of a change. Have fun trying the new styles.
Oh! How fun you got a bob! I’ve always adored that style. I tried it when I was younger, but my hair is both too thick and too wavy.
*sigh*
♥ Casey
LOVE them! I always come back to bangs, it’s the best way to freshen up a cut! So cute on you
I have to say, this is my fav look so far. Well done!
You look adorable! You really make me miss having my bangs that short
oooh i love it! your bangs are so darling!! i’ve been wanting to do the same thing, but haven’t gotten the nerve (and mr q&s doesn’t like them on me!)….. so i’m living vicariously thru you!!
I love them so much!! You are such a beauty!
You totally rock the fringe. It seriously looks like you’ve always had it….which is a good thing.
Freaking adorable.
This style of bangs went around Portland, OR a lot in the 90′s, and a few women are still sporting this look. It’s one of my all-time favorites.
Can’t wait to see some of the new vintage hairstyles you come up with.
Love ‘em! I just keep my scissors handy for a trim – I probably clip about 1x a week. It’s worked best for me to do it dry, eyeball it and no matter what, clip with the scissors almost vertical – it mysteriously makes my bangs look straight. I totally started out trying to trim bangs with a comb holding my hair in place and the scissors held horizontally. HUGE mistake!! Huge, hilarious mistake!
And I have a cowlick too, but as long as there’s an inch or so of skin above my eyebrows it totally behaves. Once my bangs get down to my eyebrows it’s AWFUL – mines on one side, though, so I can make it work!
Love it! Makes your eyeballs look comic-book giant!
Thanks for the tips, Patty! I’m keeping those scissors right in the goblet I keep all my makeup brushes in, so they’re handy.
(And I don’t have to worry about SH stealing them, since his hair is a regulation buzz cut! hehe!) I did cut these dry, and after trimming them a bit wet the other day, went back and cleaned up when they were dry again. Somehow the wet cut just doesn’t work! :p

I can’t believe how much the bangs suit you Casey! I always think it’s better to do these things and get them out of your system for better or worse, sometimes you just need a small change to give you a lift! and Hair grows so it’s not like it’s permanent. It’s such a hard style to pull off but you do it so beautifully!
Emma x
Aw, thank you Emma! Yep–I think it was just brewing in my imagination so long, I needed to just do it (despite trying to talk myself out of it a couple times… lol.)!
♥ Casey
Very cute. I especially like the bang with your hair up. Cute either way.
I’ve always had some sort of bang just cause of the way my hair grows.
I love it!!! This looks PERFECT on you! Suits you to a “t”.
Hmm… now I’m wondering if I could pull off bangs….
So cute! I want to do something retro to my hair. Not sure what yet, though…I need to find some inspiration:-)
Adorable! The bangs really draw attention to your beautiful eyes. Can’t wait to see other ways to style your hair.
Cute! As a person of many cowlicks, I’m jealous of anybody with the ability to wear bangs.
You pull off the look well! I look forward to seeing your upcoming hairstyles with the new bang addition.
WOW!! I can’t believe you jumped into the bang pool. You look great!! You look even more vintage than before. Is the possible? My kids both told me I look younger with them, so it’s been a plus and it’s fun doing something different. I made mine super thin so if I want to pull them back I can. Change is good for the spirit, it renews and refreshes.
Very timely post. I almost cut myself some bangs this weekend referencing the same video! I think you’ve given me the motivation I needed. Thanks!
Love it!!!!!
OH I do love these on you! Ironically, after having very short and blunt bangs for the past decade I have just grown mine out long enough to pincurl to the side. It’s so much fun to play around with different hairstyles!!
you look amazing! i love your new bangs
You look so pretty, Casey!
Very pretty you look. Your eyes are lovely.
That style looks PERFECT on you. Glad you went for it!
Oh, you look so cute! Love the look!
Casey, you look gorgeous! I’ve been contemplating the fringe chop for years too, I used to have a little side fringe, but could never go the whole hog. My hair is so fine it just goes limp so I’m unsure about it, plus, my hair takes a while to grow. But with my round face, a fringe does look best. Oh, decisions!!
I love your bangs! This is a good reminder for me to go back to curling my bangs! I almost never curl mine outside of Summer because the rain just knocks them flat.
They are so lovely and you look just delicious with bangs! Hurrah for the new do! Foxy, foxy!
xoxo, Sunni
You look lovely with the bangs! I’ve had longish bangs for a few years now, and I’m currently growing them out to see how that goes. I think yours was an excellent choice – they suit you perfectly!
