Does anyone else like Smarties candy? I remember liking them so much as a child–between the fact that they were fun to just let melt one by one on your tongue, they came in such a cheery array of pastel hues! Mmmm… Makes me want some right now (and I’m not much of a candy person at this point in my life). hehe!

This post also marks the long-overdue debut of my favorite vintage coat on the blog! I have had this coat for longer than Sailor Husband and I have been together (coming up on 5 years in a few months since we started seeing each other!)–probably by at least a couple years. I’m surprised I’ve never “shown it off” online! It was one of my first, big vintage finds in the thrift shop, and has held up well to all the abuse I’ve put it through. I’ve worn it to funerals, moving, sightseeing, my wedding, running errands on snowy days, and picking up SH when he’s gotten home from traveling. This is what started my love affair with the mid-century trapeze silhouette coat! It’s a gorgeous, low-pile cotton velveteen, has pockets, and looks stunning with some long, kid leather gloves. It’s warm, elegant and has a lot of memories attached to it.

Love the coat! Your outfit is so sweet. Those heels are just plain fun, I have been wearing more pins lately, but some of them are so heavy I am afraid they will tear my fabric. I am thinking of using a bit of iron on stabilizer to help make my blouse fabric more durable. As Always you look Great!

Adorable outfit, Casey! I love your coat too. in fact, lately I’ve been loving vintage coats & furs. Eventually, I hope to find my own vintage coats & furs { I have the hardest time finding vintage in my area that isn’t totally ugly}. And I too loved Smarties candy growing up.

Gosh, I clicked on your link for Smarties because I don’t associate pastille colours with Smarties and discovered that what American’s call Smarties, we call Fizzers (http://www.britishcandy.com/products/1/253/giant_fizzers.html) and this is what we know to be called Smarties: http://www.smarties.co.uk/home/

Anyway (!!!), your outfit is darling and that coat is to die for!

I love your skirt! The print is so beautiful!

I do love Smarties, but in Canada (and the UK, I would imagine) Smarties are an entirely different kind of candy:

The candy that you have in your link is what we could call “Rockets” in Canada.

You beat me to the punch! US Smarties are more like Rockets in Canada rather than the chocolate Smarties that we have here. Someone brought Smarties for a team training with a US trainer years ago and she was completely confused as to why Smarties would be a good sharable candy for adults… until she tried them.

Beautiful outfit! I once had a very confusing conversation with a Brit about Smarties. He kept insisting they contain chocolate. Two countries separated by a common language . . .

ohh i am in love with this outfit! I am serching for a light blue cardigan in order to wear it with my yellow dress :D
and your coat, adorable. I think its a bit strange how we conect memories and feelings with clothing, so that some pieces, like a dress, a coat, a pair of shoes becomes … a friend … sort of :D So many memories are tied to my favorite shoes – its like feeling home wearing them :)

Liebe Grüße!
Luna

This outfit is so pretty. I love the soft colors.

I can’t believe you have been hiding this coat for so long! It’s lovely. I am trying to figure out what the yellow brooch is, but can’t tell from the pictures. Some kind of flower?

I used to wear smarties necklaces to school in high school. . .but I sweat a LOT so I’d have them all nasty on my neck and color and sugar would be on me. so sad. It was fun though while it lasted. That is a lovely coat. I figuerd you and your SH were together longer than 5 years! That’s really cute though. I feel so ancient now though since I’ve been with mine for 11. >.<
