outfit: leopard spots

To be honest, I wasn’t planning on posting photos of this outfit. I had shared them with some friends a few weeks ago, but I wasn’t sure how this would be received on the blog because everyone is used to seeing me in pretty dresses. But then I realized how silly that mentality was! This blog is about my inspirations and fancies, and this is just a much part of me as the “other” looks. This is how I dress some days when the mood strikes me–just like the days when I wear vintage 50s dresses. A few weeks ago this was me dealing with lots of post-move stress, a husband who had just gotten back from deployment, and I didn’t feel in the mood to pull out a dress that day. It’s just as “authentic Casey” as the days I wear super high heels and tie-neck blouses with a vintage hat perched atop my head! So I hope you’ll enjoy seeing this “other” side of me (the one that is just as much a part of me as the girly-girl side!)–and a rare sighting of me in jeans! lol.

sweater: vintage, thrifted | jeans: Forever 21 | shoes: Naya, DSW | scarf: vintage, thrifted | poodle brooch: vintage, thrifted

This is a very simple look and something I wore at the beginning of the month when it was cold but sunny, and I felt in the mood to wear some modern jeans. Now, these jeans were a total impulse purchase at Forever 21–a store I rarely buy clothing at. But they fit my curvy backside better than the more expensive jeans I had been shopping for, plus they have a subtle leopard print that I was smitten with! From far away they look like a mottled grey, but up close they’re leopard! Lots of fun on days I’m feeling “wild”. hehe! Paired with a classic cashmere cardigan and a vintage Liberty of London scarf, and it tones down the leopard just a bit and goes a bit more with my vintage aesthetic I like to infuse into every outfit!

What is your favorite “wild” piece in your wardrobe?

Thanks, lady! :) I have a “casual flirtation” with the rockabilly/rock-n-roll look when the mood strikes!

Your are lovely, My winter coats are wild. I say that because they are in so many wild colors. Very bright and happy at times. Also some of my skirts have some wild/colorful prints. That’s about as wild as this vintage girl gets. Have a great day Casey.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this outfit, and I’m so pleased you did post it. I always love your outfit posts, whether they’re girly or not, and it’s nice to get some inspiration on how to vintage up my everyday jeans! (despite my love of skirts and dresses, I invariably end up in jeans, since I can’t think straight enough in the morning to concoct an outfit!)

As someone with a weakness for animal prints, let me just say you do justice to your leopard. Seriously, I think you look wonderful in jeans and you give them a tremendous amount of elegance. More, please!

Love it! I like the vibe in the outfit and the combo of the print on the jeans and the scarf. Very fun! Footloose and fancy free, even…I have no idea what that saying -really- means but it seemed to suit, lol. Thanks for sharing another side of Casey! I think it’s great. :)

Now I have the “you’re the one that I want” song from Grease in my head ;) Sorry Casey- this still looks retro to me! In fact, this is a great post on how to make modern do vintage in a totally different look :D

I don’t see the leopard spots (unless it’s a black leopard?) but I really love it. It’s good that it’s so authentic and not staged looking, and I’ve always loved the pants + button down shirt look.

What a rockin cute figure you have, Casey! You should wear jeans like that more often! I’ll bet your hubby loves them on you, too.
Have a fun weekend.

It’s a gorgeous look and I’m so glad you shared it! I’d love to wear something similar when doing house stuff at the weekends.

I’d love to know how you did your hair – I’m sure it’s quite straight forward but I’m nosy and any tips always help me achieve this sort of look quickly. Unfortunately I don’t have a lot of time to play with my hair as my two year old takes over and ‘styled-by-toddler’ is an, umm, interesting look!

I’m new to your blog, and I just love how you’ve got your headscarf tied on. Maybe you’ve already done this somewhere but, do you have a tutorial for tying on your headscarves? Just curious!

LOVE this! I’m the exact opposite right now. It’s a shock to see me in a skirt (I don’t own a dress at this moment!! O_O)

Love the subtle pattern and the high waist. I also lack in animal prints right now so I think my “wildest” piece is a brown faux leather pencil skirt. Hehe~

I love seeing this side of you! It’s a slippery slope to slide into thoughts of what is expected of you (both on blogs, and real life), so yes – show it all! ;) Also, yey for having your husband home from deployment!

You’re right, this blog *is* about you and what strikes your fancy, so who cares if you post about something that isn’t your norm?! As long as you’re feeling it, we will. You still look fabulous and you’re still inspirational! (I actually find this more relatable than anything else because this is closer to how *I* dress most week days. I’m rarely seen in a skirt or dress despite recently making huge steps to change that. One of which was finally finishing my circle skirt from the sew-along!)

My favorite “wild” piece in my wardrobe is a vintage leopard print fur coat that I got for a steal at $5 at Goodwill on one of my few and far between lucky thrifting days. It’s slightly too big at the moment, but boy do I feel fancy and sassy when I wear it!

As much as I like your pretty dresses, I may actually like this better! Though I may be biased, something very similar to this is a go-to outfit of mine. ; )

I agree with everyone else, its nice to see more than one side. Especially when it is this darn cute!

Tina February 24, 2012 at 18:58

Casey–I think this is as much “Casey” as all other outfits you post on Elegant musings! It fits very much so in with the aesthetic that you’v cultivated and, honestly, lends a bit of “bad-ittude” to your other wise very Sandra Dee kinda look! I love it.

Fabulous! It’s wonderful to see your other side, as you say. While it’s always lovely to see you in your frocks & such, it can be a bit intimidating to those of us who have a much *much* smaller vintage wardrobe. As a pretty-much-everyday jeans gal, I could easily see myself in an outfit like this. Thanks for the inspiration! Besides, despite the fact that you’re in jeans, your outfit has a decidedly “vintage” bent. Well done!

oooh, i saw Kendi post about leopard print jeans the other day and they’ve been running around in the back of my mind for a few days now – i don’t usually covet this type of thing as i do generally prefer more vintage styles, but there’s something about them that just intrigues me! and they do look very good on you Casey – plus you’ve kept it “Casey” with the head scarf and quirky poses – god love ya! x

I love it!!! You look so adorable!

I always wear jeans at the weekend, both vintage ’50s -and- modern cigarette pants… it’s such a relief to wear clothes I’m not terrified will fall apart any minute, haha!

Quite frankly i love the look on you and don’t see it as any less vintage inspired as when you wear authentic vintage clothing & team it with some modern pieces. You look like you could have walked out the doors of a war-time arms factory post shift and blended in with all the authentic era gals.

I love the vintage Liberty of London scarf! I was in London last spring and the one thing I bought at Liberty (oh how I wanted fabric, but I was backpacking and London was only my first stop) was a little cotton scarf/hankie that I can tie in my hair. I wore it tons in Paris and it made me feel girly and pretty and stylish even when I hadn’t showered in days and was totally sick of my very few outfits.

That’s so adorable, and I think every bit as feminine as your more traditionally ‘girly’ outfits! x

I’m so glad you did post these pictures!!
Because i always have that stupid mentality that girls and especially me are only prettier in dresses than in jeans! Shame on me, i really had to be more lovely and care about myself (physically and in mind) because like you prove it, wearing jeans or wearing “casual” clothes can be chic and lovely!
I just had to take care about myself more and it can start in jeans! ; ) Thanks!
