Last week was another busy and emotionally tumultuous week. With so many things up in the air for us, I’ve decided to just be quiet and embroider (and possibly sew!) today–enjoying the day of rest I have. Right now I’m working on the southern belle that I mentioned in my Friday post, and also crazily decided late Friday night to start embroidering a sofa pillow cover. (I blame the very little sleep I’ve gotten of late for making me a bit wacky with crafty project!) I got a few books out of the library on embroidery and been reading up a bit more about techniques and methods. Lots and lots to learn! (So far Alicia Paulson’s Embroidery Companion is proving to be a favorite; I love her method of explanation.) I’m itching to embroider on a garment, and even whipped up a little sample embroidery Thursday evening of a motif I’d like to use… (More on that later!)
- Vintage images are 10 times more inspiring when they’re in glorious color!
- My sister wrote a thoughtful piece on the neighborly-approach to internet (particularly blog) interaction and fostering a sense of community.
- Elsie’s question and answer piece on what it’s like to own and run a vintage boutique was quite informative–and makes me appreciate ventures like this all the more!
- Vintage-thrifting/flea market queen Mena found an amazing 1958 Simplicity counter pattern book!
- Fleur eloquently wrote about what it’s like to go against the flow by dressing vintage and how she adopted the look.
- Did you see Jen’s clever way to jazz up a pair of Mary Jane pumps? So cute!
Back to some pattern drafting and embroidering (while trying to stay cool inside!). Hope you all are having a lovely weekend!

Thanks Casey! I always appreciate your links – so many things I’d miss out on otherwise. Hope things begin to look up soon. x

casey,
thank you for the link love, being included in your inspiration post has brightened my day!
i hope things will get for you soon. like i was telling a family member the other day (i’ve been experiencing un-fun drama myself lately), this is only a temporary state of being and you will get through it.
sending healing thoughts you way!
Thank you so much for your sweet words, Jen!
You’re right: everything is only temporary! I keep having to remind myself that, because this little period of ups and downs has been going on for most of the year. I know things will eventually pass though!!!

Lovely! This weekly inspirations are so inspiring. My favourite posts.
those flowered shoes are cleverly put together. Looks really pretty and you wouldn’t have guessed how they were done! that’s so cool.
your sister’s post is really nicely written and heartfelt.
So glad you enjoyed her post!
She’s really trying to get back into blogging (she’s a full time college student, so it’s been a bit tough schedule-wise), and I’m really excited she’s been posting things like this that I love to share!

I love your weekly inspiration posts they never fail to inspire. Thanks for sharing
Have you seen Sarah’s Hand Embroidery Tutorials? They are amazingly detailed, and she’s posted about so many different stitches! I haven’t embroidered since I was a little girl, but I’m itching to start again!
Check out her site: http://www.embroidery.rocksea.org/

Hope things settle down for you soon! I love your inspiration board this week. Whether on purpose or on accident, the colors are so serene and calming.
It was partly on purpose–all those soothing tones were really appealing to me this week! Between life and the heat of summer, light colors just seem right at the moment.

I enjoy the weekly inspirations…there’s always something there that I’ve not seen myself. The vintage counter book for sewing patterns is a good example.
What a fantastic pattern book – thanks for letting us know about this!
Aw, man, sis, thank you for the link. Love you lots (not just for that, I swear).
ohmygosh, that kitten photo is so sweet!
Casey,
Thank you for another collection of wonderful inspirations. I have something that I would like to share with you though I wouldn’t be surprised if you are already aware of them! I work as a care assistant with elderly living with Dementia, most of whom were born between 1915-1940. Now we have a fantastic Activities Coordinator in our home who orders and searches for the best of everything from days gone by, but there are 2 books in particular which I think you would like. They are called ‘Leading Ladies’ and ‘Leading Men’ and as far as I can tell they were published in the 80′s. The photos in them are gorgeous. I just ordered myself a 2nd hand copy of each from amazon for less than £6!
