I know that more than a couple readers will probably hate me for this outfit post, especially if you are buried under snow (again!) right now. I know I would! lol. Yes, it is getting that warm here in Florida. I’m sure it’ll cool off one more time before the real heat sets in, but springtime temperatures have descended on us, which means I’m already pulling my summer wardrobe out of hiding and contemplating packing away the majority of my sweaters and wool skirts for the remainder of the year. Crazy, isn’t it?
- blouse: made by me (post here)
- skirt: rummage sale
- handbag: 30s/40s vintage, gift
- chain/seahorse necklaces: thrifted/Target
- earrings: Forever21
- sandals: Banana Republic
This outfit is a teeny bit inspired by all those Edwardian fashions I’ve been drooling over lately, but with more of a modern twist. The skirt is something I picked up years ago at a rummage sale and was struck by how the light fabric, lace insertion and embroidered hem flounce reminded me of petticoats from that era. For the longest time though, I could never put an outfit together around the skirt that I liked and seemed to suit it. You’d think a basic white skirt equals so many style possibilities, right? Yeah… except I think I must have overlooked the obvious! lol. So paired with this top I made last year and few other favorite accessories, it has that 1910s feel without the look of a costume.

Just one more thing… isn’t this handbag great? That’s the one I showed last month that was a gift from my parents for Christmas. I’ve been pairing it with a lot of outfits lately. I probably should not admit that I’ve used it with nearly every outfit for the past week or so, regardless of if it really “matches” or not. lol. I think this means maybe I need to start swapping some of those black handbags I have for some eye-catching patterned ones!

love the hairdo <3
That is a very cute look. I love the handbag and the shoes.
Nah, I can’t resent you for the warmer weather cause we are getting spring weather, too. Probably not as warm as you, but I saw daffodils blooming when I took my mom to the dr. yesterday.
JoAnns has a lot of stuff on sale this week and I get paid, so I’m going to get some things for a couple projects.
I love your hairstyle! How do you get such a perfect line in the hair you’ve drawn back from your face? My hair never does what I want it to!
Thank you, Frederica!
I’m actually going to do a tutorial on this hairstyle, so keep an eye out for that in the next week or so!
♥ Casey
Please tell you will do a tutorial on your hair!!! So cute!
Shall work on one to have up in the next week or so!
♥ Casey
While I am enduring snow still, I am too in love with this outfit and your cuteness to hate you! You are adorbs, and this combo is too cute.
Absolutely adorable outfit! And the hair, as usual, is gorgeous. Will there be a tutorial in the future?
There certainly will, Christine!
It’s so, so easy; hopefully I’ll have it up in the next week.
♥ Casey
Love the modernised Edwardian look, and that top is so nice! I’m very jealous of your nice weather!
From Carys of La Ville Inconnue
Love your blouse and the way you’ve styled it. Also – you are serious hair-inspiration for me. I used to be really into vintage hair, but have fallen out of it in the last few years (I’m a seriously adult now!). Your styles are so very wearable, though! I love it!
Aw, thank you Katie!
I admire a lot of more vintage hairstyles too, but often find that it’s just more “me” to do something that’s a mash-up of vintage and modern.
Sometimes the styles lean more towards vintage, but my favorites tend to be this sort!

How lovely! I wish it was that warm here. *sigh* I’ve been trying to convince my husband to move to Florida, but no such luck.
Well, come May when I start whining about how hot and humid it is (plus the bugs come out en masse), you might want to reconsider the idea of moving to FL! hehe!
♥ Casey
I’ll second the request for a hair tutorial! Adorable outfit. Actually, my first instinct with this look was 70′s but I can see the Edwardian influence now too. Although perhaps Edwardian underwear!! You put together your outfits so impeccably!
Pxxx
Shall be working on a hair tutorial over the next couple of days to post late next week!
Yeah–there is a bit of a 70s influence in this outfit, isn’t there? I have to admit that the 70s romantic/Edwardian trend is one I’ve admired for a long, long time, so it’s not surprising it crept in. hehe!
♥ Casey
I am SO excited that it is warm enough to dress like this!! This is a good sign – no?
Mom
Let’s hope so!!!
♥ Casey
Casey, I enjoyed the colors that you put together, and I adore that handbag! And as for warm – we’re just barely getting out of the winter stage! lol – we’ve had a few warm(er) days but nothing that you can go out in cooler outfits! *It’s coming, it’s coming*
gaaaa, I am sooo jealous that you can wear such light and lovely clothes already!!!!! Beautiful, as always, C!
Is your belt just a regular size tied up around itself? It looks great! I’m still envious of your nautical knot belt too. As usual, you look great!
The belt is one I bought years and years ago when I was wearing jeans and pants that had a lower rise. It’s too big for my natural waist measure, but looped around itself like this works in a pinch!
(Until I find a narrow, better-fitting brown leather belt that is… Although I kind of like this look!)
♥ Casey
Your skirt is so pretty! I like how the shoes and belt stop it being too twee!
What a great outfit. It’s so light and spring-y and pretty. You always look so perfect, Casey–not a hair out of place.
I love your hair (twisty bun!) in these photos — excellent summery wardrobe post. It’s still cold as all get out (or stay in?) here, but sunny at least. So I’m not mad : )
Beautiful! Your style is so sweet and classy. I’m a little envious of the warm weather, but ours will be here sooner than expected. Isn’t it just a little meloncholy for you having to put away the sweaters and wool skirts? I know it would be for me!
But the Edwardian/teens eras are devine!
It is kind of sad… I do love my sweaters so much! Although I’m looking for a few nice cotton ones at the thrift store to modify (shorten sleeves mostly) so I can wear those in the spring/summer…
♥ Casey
You look great! We’re buried in snow here again in NYC. Would you please do a hair tutorial based on your hair in this post? Thank you!
I shall be working on a hair tutorial to be posted sometime late next week!
♥ Casey
You look so refreshingly pretty!! Your right …..its still winter ! ..And i so want to wear a summer dress!!!
your hairstyle looks like mine!! I like what you did though with the front of it better
hehe. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-g8Hobpn66tk/TWLaNyEvH3I/AAAAAAAAFL0/rJeJO56scdU/s640/pussybowblouse_15.JPG
You can be all in hot sticky weather all you want. I like the snow. hehe.
very cute top that you’re wearing. I love edwardian fashion. . okay i love fashion in general though from loads of periods except most of the 80s and 90s and 20s. ugh.
That is too funny that our hairstyles look so similar!
♥ Casey
You look so refreshingly pretty!! Your right …..its still winter ! ..And i so want to wear a summer dress!!!
I wouldn’t say hate but definitely jealous lol!
lovely outfit really pretty and reminiscent of spring time
LOVE your outfit, Casey! I’m definitely picking up on the Edwardian vibe, especially in the blouse. So cute! AND your hair looks gorgeous! It’s simple looking, yet SO elegant! <3
OK, I feel like I’ve been commenting a lot on your blog lately (and Tasia’s too, oops!!), but I just had to mention that I love your sandals. I had a pair very similar to yours though they weren’t as comfy as I had hoped, so I had to give them up. Oh, and your flower earrings are so cute! They remind me of a necklace I made
I have had these sandals for ages… like five years! They were a $20 find at a Banana Republic outlet, and have served me well. Although I really need to get some inserts for the front portion since it’s gotten a little worn there and uncomfortable to wear for long periods. And they need a date with some brown shoe polish…
♥ Casey
Nice outfit! And I really, really like your hair! Can you do a tutorial please? Although if I try it, it definitely won’t look as good as you…
I’m going to work on a hair tutorial to post soon!
♥ Casey
This is beautiful Casey, as always! xx
No, I don’t hate you for this, but hell yeah I am jealous! The Netherlands is one of the countries that is about to be covered in snow -again, and I so .. do .. not .. want that!
Anyhow
, your hair is fabulous!
You look lovely as always Casey
LOVE the hair! Beautiful as always!
Love this outfit!! It is warm now isn’t it?
I am so impressed that you made that adorable top; you’re so creative!
Now I am sure that if I got a shovel and peeled away 10 inches of the white stuff from my garden there would be green under there! I can also wear a blouse, like yours, if I had long quilted underwear! Enjoy your weather, we are happy for you. Nice look!
You look so breezy and refreshing! Such a pretty outfit, I love all the details you’ve added. And… I am just a little bit jealous of your enviable warmer weather…
I am trying really hard not to cry now! Snowing over here in Germany again. You know where to send your jumpers if you need a clean out! Lovely outfit. And I’m not jealous. No not me. Not at all.
Ohhhhhh, how I LOVE that bag. Whole outfit’s a knockout, but that bag! Ah!
I love your modern update of the Edwardian fashion, white skirts can be tricky to wear but your handcrafted top works so well with it.
Am envious of your little bag, I would be pairing it with every outfit too regardless of it matching! There’s definitely snow here in Chicago again so no bare legs for us for quite a while.
You’d think that white skirts would be like black ones… go with everything! lol. I had another white skirt that I’ve worn a lot more, but it’s long and somehow easier to make outfits around. I’m just glad I finally figured out an outfit that I like with this one!
♥ Casey
Lovely shoes!
Let them grumble! I live in San Diego and I am a knitter! All of those who get snow and seasons don’t know how lucky they are (I haven’t been able to wear ANY sweaters this year!)!! Take some pics of the mosquitoes you have there in FLA and see if they are still jealous!
Speaking of mosquitoes… You would not believe the hoards of them that have popped up in the past week. YUCK! I’ve been finding them sneaking in the house lately and it’s been a real pain to chase them down. lol.
♥ Casey
Such a sweet outfit Casey- gorgeous as always
(and during that time admiring all your gorgeous summer outfits while we are shivering away lol).
I agree with some of the other girls- PLEASE do a tutorial for your hairdo. It’s really lovely, and so cute.
It’s funny how you are starting to get all of your summer clothes out now, as we are just about to do the opposite down here in Australia (lol). I’ll definitely be looking back through your posts for ideas for me this winter
Due to popular request, I shall be doing a tutorial on this style!
Keep an eye out for it… I’m hoping to post it late next week…
♥ Casey
We’re getting late snow (not sticking yet, but we’ll see come tonight). But my crocuses are blooming, the spring bulbs are sending up leaves, and the roses are putting on itty-bitty buds of new growth. Oh, and the flowering plum tree is getting little buds, too. I cling to whatever hope of spring I can find this time of year, lol.
Your outfit is darling, and I noticed the bag right away. I’ll be able to wear things like that by June, earlier with a little jacket or shrug. And then by August it’ll be dry and broiling and I’ll be gasping for cooler, damper weather.
Oh! I so miss all the early-spring flowers that bloom up north!
Right now we’re contending with things starting to bloom (I think it’s one of the variety of palms we have here) and dead leaves on the deciduous trees falling off. lol.
♥ Casey
Loving the hair do and the cute shirt! Great outfit.
What a lovely outfit! I especially like the skirt.
This outfit looks so lovely on you!! oh and I’m almost done with the skirt sorry for the long wait but I had to search everywhere for a similar fabric to the one I had made it out of. But I finally found some!!
The blouse is soo cute!!
Yes, that is a lovely handbag. If you ever grow tired of it??
Right I’m moving to Florida! Dull and dreary hear in Blightly, wouldnt mind if it was snowing. Everything has had a gey tinge to it for weeks now, and its not raining just a fine mist, the kind that drenches you without you relising it!
Beautiful outfit, that pale blue is lovely on you!
x
hehe! Well, you may want to rethink that come May… It starts to get super hot and humid and stays that way until late October! Plus, as another commenter mentioned… there are the bugs and mosquitoes (which have decided to camp outside my front door and try to swarm in whenever it’s opened… yuck!). Although it is lovely right now… I just wish I could box up some of the sunshine and warmth and send it to you all!
♥ Casey
Hi casey i just watched your vid of thrifted goods and i must say it was super and i hope you do lots more id also like to ask do you thrift earrings? if so how do yo go about cleaning them iv seen lots but i dont know if i like the thought of them weird that might be .
hope to see more of your thrifts soon
miss 1940
Thank you–I do plan on doing quite a few more thrift videos!
So keep an eye on my YouTube channel for that…
I have mixed feelings about thrifting earrings. I used to, but stopped for a couple reasons (although I still pick up the random pair of clip-ons occasionally). Although I sterilized all pairs before I wore them (usually just with 80%-90% rubbing alcohol), I have big problems with scar tissue in my pierced holes becoming infected easily and mixed metals. So never being sure what the “purity” of the metal was, I decided to stop. Sometimes I will buy dangling earrings and just replace the posts/wires with new ones I buy at Michael’s. But lately I haven’t seen anything I really like… I’ve been buying most of my earrings on Etsy and at Forever21 lately.

I can’t wait for your tutorial! You look so cute and comfy!
LOVE your hair, man I gotta grow mine now, bring on the tutorial!
yep, love your hair.
it makes me sad i cut all of mine off.
I love your blog Casey. You have inspired me to rediscover my love for vintage and to attempt to learn how to sew. Of course, it will mean me sewing my fingers together since I’m a master klutz, but you have given me hope.
I absolutely love your hair in this post! How on Earth did you do it? Oh wait, I just saw that you’re going to do a tutorial. I can’t wait to see it!
