You’re all probably tired of hearing this (and if you’re in the right spot in the world, experiencing it!), but it’s been so hot lately–almost so much so that I haven’t really been bothering to wear anything exciting. Pretty much the same half dozen pieces (relying heavily on lightweight skirts) over and over… It’s so easy to get into a rut when the weather is uncooperative! Last week, however, I dug this dress out of the back of my closet, and it’s light color and fiber (linen) have been just the little pick-me-up I needed! Funnily enough, I don’t think I’ve ever shown a picture of me wearing this–even though I made it four years ago! It was made with a modern pattern (which I believe it still in print–New Look #6557), but had a bit of a retro flair to it.
[ my favorite handbag! ]
For a short time I actually thought about getting rid of this dress (honestly, there are about a million things I would do differently fitting and construction-wise now!), but held on to it because of the antique lace on the hem. I kept meaning to take it off to save, but never did. It’s a good thing too I guess! Throwing on a belt helps with some of the fit issues at this point, and pairing it with some of my favorite jewelry and handbag (a red carpetbag my mother in law gave me for Christmas! You can drool over these lovely pieces of work here!) perks it up a bit more. I don’t want to admit to how many times I’ve worn this in the past week, but it may be somewhere between two and four…
[ yes, this hairstyle has been making multiple appearances in variations this week! ]
It looks like another action-packed weekend ahead of Sailor Husband and I! Whew–I thought weekend were for a bit of r&r, but lately I’ve been wrong. lol. Although just about everything we have planned (with a couple exceptions) is fun, so a girl can’t complain. Hope you all have lovely weekends too!

Wow, beautiful! And you hair looks absolutely amazing!
Lovely dress and I hope you realize you are a dead ringer for Barbara Stanwyck in Double Indemnity (though much younger and prettier of course!)
casey you have a very Barbara Stanwyck in Double Indemnity vibe going in the close up of your hair!! I love it! http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_MMkemu3GvWE/TA8GJ7BEiXI/AAAAAAAAAB4/XIHrNjrhUY0/S700/di11.jpg
Hey Casey,
This dress pattern is one of my go-to patterns… I love it! But I always, always narrow the waist section, because it just doesn’t seem that flattering – especially for those of us with ‘child-bearing’ hips!
You look fabulous as ever – thanks for the inspiration!

Love your hair that way! Is there a reason you never brought that bag out to show me when I came to visit????? Don’t trust me, huh???
Have fun this weekend! It’s really HOT back here – especially this weekend. I’m planning on staying in the AC.

You look just lovely, I am so jealous of your amazing hair!

That carpet bag is delicious ~ just add it to the list of ‘must haves’ along with a straw bag and a black leather coach bag and a black leather doctor style bag!!
I already have few purses, but I know I need those ones as well…. :S

White and light are definitely key to keeping cool!
That dress is very pretty and looks like the perfect light and cool thing to wear in the heat and humidity. I don’t normally wear white or colors that light, but I have a couple standby summer dresses that are white (with prints) that I have to keep, just because they are the ones I wear when I can’t imaging wearing anything else.
And I am SO jealous of that gorgeous carpetbag!
I love your hair in these pictures! I think white dresses are so perfect for summer, especially ones you can accessorize in fun ways.
Very cute look. Your hair looks great. Love the purse, too.
It’s so hot here, too. My granddaughter told me she had melted into a puddle of kid it was so hot:) So we are sharing your pain.
Have a great weekend.
Well done! It’s hot in NYC too; I can completely empathize. Your hair is amazing btw!
Love how your wear your hair!
Fabulous! I LOVEEEEEEEE your hair! Can we do a hair trade too?! hehe
Simply beautiful Casey!! Hope you have a lovely weekend!!
Lovely, lovely, lovely!
Love the dress! I would love to have a white dress but I’m way to clumsy. I would end up spilling something on myself almost right away. lol
Love your hair.

Your hairstyle turned out amazing! Very 1940s, too, with the soft curls and waves at the back. Did you use pincurls to create the look?
You are so glamorous! Whenever I have to deal with extreme heat I turn into a sweaty, grumpy mess. Luckily we don’t have to deal with extreme heat very often here (Scotland)!
Oh Casey I just love your hair! You look so glamourous!
