inspiration {week #111}
[ please click for the sources of these beautiful images! ]
I am so excited: tomorrow is the first day of spring (at least here in the US and Canada)–my favorite season! The weather has been warming up promisingly the past week, the days feel longer (thanks to the switch to Daylight Savings Time), and I’ve been breaking out some of my favorite spring clothes. We have some plans for this weekend that take us outdoors, and I’m just hoping the weather will decide to be very springlike: warm and sunny!

- An excellent post from Susannah showing images of women’s fashion in Britian during WWII.
- A very clever update of a thrifted, long denim dress into something quite a bit more chic (yet another reminder to not “judge a book by it’s cover”–seek out new possibilities!).
- More WWII fashion inspiration! This time the looks of USO entertainers during the 40s.
- I’m loving this lovely set of photos Miriam posted this week–the colors are just perfect for early spring!
- Kathy shared this fantastic video of jivers at the 1939 world’s fair–check out some of those outfits!
[ slip advertisement, 1945. ]
This week’s inspiration image is from 1945. Now that the weather is starting to warm up, I tend to pull out some of my more sheer or lightweight dresses. Of course, wearing these requires layering up underneath! I adore vintage full slips, and have quite a collection. But nothing quite as sweet as these, with the embroidery on the top. Almost too pretty to cover! I love the dance inspired theme to this ad too–so sweet and springish.
We’ve got some sightseeing/exploring planned for next week. Although I’m hoping to squeeze some blogging in, I hope you’ll excuse any tardiness or absence here (or answering emails). Still, I am hoping to have the next installment of the Guide to Sewing series up on Monday, if I can finish writing it in the next two days! (It’s ended up that I’m adding a supplement to the second post–kind of a “materials” list that is necessary to at least touch on!) Hope you all have a lovely, sun-filled weekend!

It has been just wonderful here, too! I totally did not notice that tomorrow is the first day of Spring! I think my brain is still flying the friendly skies…….
I love your picture set, and will check out some of those links myself.
I have noticed that the pansies are in at Lowe’s…..this may mean some garden activity in my near future.
Have a wonderful weekend!

It is so inspiring to has discovered a person such as yourself with the same fascinations such as mine. I am obsessed with past eras: the 1940s and 50s especially. I love viewing your YOUTUBE videos and glancing over your blog site. I am 15 years of age and nothing excites me more than the style and elegance of the eras I mentioned above. Audrey Hepburn was a spectacular woman on the inside and out and as humble as ever. I just recently read her full biography ever since i’ve just been even more inspired. I love writing and creating stories- and the 1940s and 50s really motivate me to do so. What can I say, The Notebook was incredible! I love stories like that…
And when I watch your videos or look at your sight you just remind me that I’m not so eerie of a human being after all.Avec Amour (meaning “with love” in french),
