I love figuring out little accent pieces to add to otherwise plain outfits. Saturday I was wearing my favorite gray wool skirt and a light blue cardigan (it was cold here!), but decided it looked rather plain. None of my brooches in my jewelry stash seemed to work, so I put together a little “quick fix” piece! A trio of “cherries” (originally a holly berry spring from the craft store at Christmas), a little black velvet bow, a pin back, transformed to create a cute piece. It reminds me so much of the novelty costume jewelry brooches of the early 1940s! In case you would like to make one, I wrote a mini tutorial.

What a cute pin! Totally makes the outfit!
This makes me want to make brooches all day long. Alas, my 1955 vintage pattern playsuit must be finished today (and I think the cherry pin would look lovely on it…..).

Feeling a bit broken hearted today… sigh…

I love wearing little pins & broaches like this. I was a bit busy this week, so no time for crafting—but I did tie a lot of plush & candy to flower arrangements, haha.

Acutally I did do something crafty this weekend – I wrote a loveletter.
Not sure if that counts, but to me letters are wonderful pieces of art.

Oh ! Casey ! Thank you so much ! I adore this brooch ! You’re so talented !
Hi Casey! I’m new to reading your blog and I am so inspired right now! Such a cute brooch! Nothing like a brooch to tissy up an outfit! =)
Mmmm… cherries. Tasty and super cute! What a lovely finisher to the outfit
Oh how I love cherries, love this idea, it’s so simple yet very effective. I’m in Australia and it is almost 40 degrees Celsius here most of Summer so I’m SO jealous with your talk of cardigans. I almost jumped out of my skin with excitement in the shops today at the sight of a SCARF amongst the summer dresses and skirts, hooray scarves are hitting the stores…bring on the cool weather!!! And fabulously decadent and warm boots, gloves, coats, aaaahhh swoon!
How pretty! I’d be over the moon if I won:)
Very cute tutorial!
Hi Casey, i love your little pin its so cute. i may try to make one myself.

From Steff (wrapped up warm in a cardigan from not-so-sunny England)
How cute! I just love the cherries!
Totally down for a giveaway!!!
This is adorable! I’m going to enter, but if I don’t win I’ll probably end up overcoming my own laziness to make my own…thanks for running the giveaway, and for the tutorial!
I try to make myself not so lazy and do something too. But it’s not so easy as it seems to be.
Love little cherries.
Cute pin! I have a few cardigans that would look adorable on!
Would love to win that! I actually did do something crafty this weekend. My husband proposed to me on the beach, and on a whim I kept the stick he used to write, “Will you marry me?” I’ve had it tucked in a drawer the last 5 years. As an engagement present, my sister snuck away with the pictures of the individual words we had taken, had them redone in a sepia tone and mounted into a lovely, beachy wood frame. Which has also been sitting around because we hadn’t hung it. So this weekend I made little loops and mounted the stick to hang just under the frame and we hung the picture over our dresser. It looks perfect!
What a cute idea!
That broch is lovely! I´d like so enter the giveaway too!
Í have started to sew my first vintagepattern, a hollywood pattern from the 40´s.
