the beginning of a new year

[ welcoming 2010! (a highly unusual look for me: jeans!) ]

Hello, friends, and Happy 2010 to you all! I hope everyone had a great time ringing in the New Year. It’s hard to believe that it’s already January, and now I’ve got to get back into the normal swing of things. lol. So many things to do and so many dreams for 2010… I always feel a bit overwhelmed by a new year and all the possibilities it holds!

Though I don’t usually hold to the idea of “New Year Resolutions” (it sounds so official and intimidating; plus I’d rather make resolutions throughout the year as things arise), this year I have a little list of goals I’d like to aim for.

  • Get my Etsy shop back up and running by early spring.
  • Redesign this blog and officially move it back to my www.elegantmusings.com domain.
  • Learn to make a good cup of coffee with my French press!
  • Organize all my social networking/bulletin board sites and set a plan for actually keeping up with them on a regular basis (instead of the highly spotty visits and generally forgetting about sites last year!).
  • Be more consistent about pin curling my hair several times a week. Stretch my knowledge of hair styling and learn new techniques.
  • Restart posting videos on my YouTube channel!
  • Learn how to use a serger to help streamline my sewing. This was my #1 wish for Christmas, and I managed to order one yesterday! Now I’m just waiting on pins and needles for it to arrive. hehe!
  • Learn hatmaking. My friend Jenny Rose got me hooked on the idea of making my own hats, and I have plans to start learning a new skill! Need to gather up some supplies first…
  • Become a better photographer. Take time to really get to know my camera better.
  • Most importantly: strike out on some new adventures with Sailor Husband. See new places, try new things (especially in the food category; I’m a bit of an adventuresome person in this area!), and gain new memories.

What are your goals and inspirations for this new year? I’d love to know what everyone else is dreaming and hoping for!

Is that you at Sea World? I used to work there back in the day so it looks very familiar!

Happy New Year and please post any serger stories. I’m thinking about getting one to but they scare me.

I haven’t really made any goals this year yet. I think I just want to wait and see what the Lord has in store for me and take it little by little.

Adorable picture of you by the way. I hope your endeavors will be accomplished.

You are so darling! Such a sweet sweet smile. My number one New Year’s Resolution: To believe in myself. It may sound a little narcissistic but I think its good to believe that you can do something and do it well. Happy Happy New Year! Best wishes for 2010!

Sounds like you have lots of exciting plans. Time with family is always at the top of the list for me. I plan to continue learning to sew, (my seams need work!) learn to do hand embroidery, & to learn some new knitting skills. I’m also trying to maintain a good weight (with my love of sweets & baking :) ) and let my hair grow. I hope your Serger gets there quickly. I know you’ll be a whiz at it!

I got a serger for Christmas too! Total surprise and I about fell out of my chair when I saw it. Can’t wait to put the thing to use. Also can’t wait to get some inspiration by seeing what you do with yours.

omg! Someone gave me a Serger! It looks like it might be from the 60′s, and is missing the cord… I’m hoping I can order one.
    Happy New Year!

My resolutions are to update my art blog more often (got a new camera for Christmas) and drink more wine. The last one should be easy.

I look forward to your Etsy shop, Casey! Hope there will be some hats for sale!

Happy new year to you! A serger sounds very exciting! I’ve always wanted to learn how to use one, but they look so scary. Good luck!
And I can’t wait to see your Etsy shop up and running again. I always admired your shop (and pined for that Heartstrings print!), and I know that it will be lovely yet again.

OOooo I think I am going to copy you and add “getting to know my camera” to my personal goals list, too! My daughter wanted to be healthier, and greener, and asked to eat vegetarian one day a week (a 10 year old want more veges?!?! My head is still reeling!). I am actually looking forward to 101 things you can do with a zucchini…..

Oh, and I followed your altering cardigans tutorial and for the first time in my life my cardi-sleeves aren’t 6″ too long, and it nips in nicely at my waist. Thank you ever so much!

    Great goals! Happy 2010!

I don’t know if it will help, but I can tell you (from a past job as a barista at Starbucks for years) that the key to good coffee from a French press is: good water, good coffee and the right size ground. If you have a starbucks nearby, they’ll usually happily give you a demonstration (including how large to grind the coffee) when they’re not busy.

You’ve also inspired me to pull out the surger I got a couple Christmases ago and really learn how to use it!

Making coffee in the french press is the only way! Good luck!

If you go to Starbucks, they can show you how to use the french press perfectly! Just be sweet and They can show you how to measure and everything! I used to work there and as long as the baristas arent snobby, they should show you…. Would love to see some new videos from you! Love the blog!!!

Those are good goals! I think I need to take on the social networking sites one (and also stop stalking boys I like online ;]). I would like to read all of the books I have and watch all of the DVDs I haven’t watched, yet. And my friend told me our joint resolution is to ‘get out there’ and ask guys out. I’m letting her have that one alone. ;] Haha
