Because I am obviously stuck on late 30s fashion right now (hence the post the other day!), I though it’d be fun to share a page this week from one of my vintage needlecraft magazines. They’re from March 1938. All the designs are rather simple, but I love the possibilities that simple allows. Fantastic fabric, beautiful construction details, extravagant embellishments… (Embellishment has been on my mind a lot recently too. I made a blouse and added gold sequins over Christmas. I need to photograph that still!) Scope for the imagination.
I hope you all have a lovely, creative, and inspiring weekend!

I am really loving the 30′s styles. You always find the most interesting sites. My favorites are overflowing.
Thanks and have a great weekend.
Wasn’t Jody’s piece eye-opening? My gosh, I had no idea!
I completely agree about the embellishing part. I find myself more and more turning to this rather than trying to embellish with printy fabric. Though that is a little hard for me as I find printy fabric hard to resist. I love the post on keeping warm too. Its so hard when it is bone chilling cold out there!
I love the patterns! I looooove model 1990! so gorgeous…. I’ve been having visions of little embelishments for spring dancing in my brain lately too and those would be the perfect kind of dresses to spice up.
and that post on fraudulant vintage! That was so shocking! Those pictures were so obvious and terribly done. Thank you for the link!
Fun fact: I work 3 blocks from FIDM and often eat lunch in the park that is in their courtyard. I’ll have to check out the museum sometime. I’ve also shopped in their scholarship store which has fabric, but it’s all knits in horrible prints. Also, I absolutely love Sarai’s little neck cozy!
Thanks for letting us know about the FIDM blog! I hope you have a wonderful weekend!!
Pls post sequin pics! I, too, have been thinking about embellishing garments lately. Must be in the zeitgeist.
Hello!
).
I found your site through a friend, and really like it!!
I just wanted to write you a little comment to thank you for your youtube videos!!! They were SOOO helpful!! I’ve been really wanting to wear my hair in a 1940′s style for a long time, but your video made it easy! And I liked the vintage makeup too!!
Anyways, thanks again and God bless!! (I will be checking back!
Amy :O)
Thank you so much for including a link to my article about label fraud in the vintage and used designer clothing industries. I appreciate you helping to get the word out!
I saw 6&7 on my blog travels this week too!
So kind of you to post a link to our blog! Hope you and your readers found many inspiring objects. We update very regularly, so be sure to check back often.
@Allison, the park is one of the perks of working at FIDM! It’s such a lovely place to eat lunch and take a quick break. We don’t have a permanent exhibition space, but our next exhibition (of costumes from recent films) will be up on February 9. Come and visit us then!
Gorgeous inspirations as always! I love the use of reds, just lovely!
