1940s on my mind

[ this lovely chambray dress from 1946 reminds me of Anna's recent creation... ]

Been day dreaming about projects lately, trying to whittle down my fabric wishlist for spring and summer sewing, and actually decide about what I want to make! Between being excited about the possibilities of the new serger (yep… it’s been here for a bit and I’ve been practicing a lot on scraps and such!) and just plain excited about spring, I’ve been paging through my old magazines a lot. These are some more scans from the 1940s pattern magazines I posted about recently

[ this is my summer inspiration: cool dresses and movie starlet sunglasses! ]

So far, I think I’ve decided I need to make a late 30s style playsuit, a couple skirts, blouses, and a few new dresses to spruce up my wardrobe (things are getting a bit shabby here and there). As to the specific styles of each, I still haven’t pinned my ideas down–too many are appealing to me! But then again, I think I am the World’s Most Indecisive Person. hehe! However is a girl to figure these things out?

I’m so excited about sprint too! I watched The Notebook for the 100th time yesterday and it’s 40s spring/summer fashion heaven! Lots of playsuits! You seen it yet darling!? if not I HAVE to send you a copy, hehe :D

I know! And it’s high time for starting on the summer outfits! But the decisions! *shakes my head* I’m an incurable time-optimist, so by now I’ve learned to start with the things I really want, and then see what else I’ll have time for. But the planning is amlost the best part, to sit with a cup of tea, a sketchpad and patterns, or just rummage through the fabric-storage…

oh my goodness Casey, you know what? I think those overalls are actually super duper cute and you of al people would pull them off like a dream!

I know, I would love to find some starlet sunglasses like those to wear with my cool dresses this summer. I think you could easily pull off the overalls as well. They would be so darling.

You have the perfect figure for a playsuit – me, not so much, kind of shaped like a barrel right now – lol. Those overalls are adorable! I went thrifting this weekend and bought a top with sleeves just like the bottom left corner of the first magazine page you posted. It’s in red gingham and pretty darn cute. Thrifting is going to have to work for me until I get better at sewing and exercising. ;) It’s always exciting to hear about your plans. Have fun!

I’m loving the overalls too! I would think of them more as cute coveralls or a full-length playsuit. Also love them with that jacket.

I love the idea of a chambray 1940s dress! Well, any of this stuff would look wonderful on you!

Now if I could find a pair of overalls as cute as those, they would be a staple in my summer wardrobe! :)

Oh! I love the scallop detailing on those over-hauls!! :) So sweet! :) And, Thanks for your kind words about my little Regency frockling-to-be!!

I love the forties! I think they are my favourite of all the vintage eras. That’s probably because they flatter my shape best, but whatever!

Great post, I can’t wait to see what you make.

I’m pretty sure you’re always thinking about the forties! I have to admit that recently I’ve been very drawn to the early forties myself.

I love those overalls. I don’t think I’d wear them but I somehow want a pair, anyway! Go figure. These images are wonderful Thanks for sharing them, Casey.

I can be really indecisive too! Usually if I’m stuck I ask someone else for their opinion, and find myself feeling the opposite of whatever they said. :P
