When I’m curled up in front of my sewing machine for a few hours, I often listen to music. But sometimes I get a little bored, and wish to engage my mind a bit more. One solution would be books on cd, but another (more recent discovery) is the world of podcasts with a decided creative flair. I have only just started to explore the vast array of podcasts available through iTunes, but they have been such a fun way to learn new techniques, generate ideas, or listen to interviews with some of my favorite crafty authors! I thought I would share my favorite listens with you all; they’re perfect for putting on while crafting, doing housework, or during a quiet evening when you don’t feel quite like having the television on…
Do you have any favorite podcasts (of the creative or not variety) or web-radio shows that you enjoy listening to? Please share!

Hey Casey, I’ve been lurking up to now, but I couldn’t NOT comment on podcasts — they’ve made my knitting “downtime” SO much more fun!
I’m not a big sewer (and also my sewing machine is insanely noisy) so I have mostly knitting podcast recommendations but I love…
Sticks and String — knitting podcast by an Australian high school teacher, named David.
Cast-on — possibly the original knitting podcast, hosted by Brenda Dayne.
Betty in the Sky with a Suitcase — totally not knitting-related. Betty is a flight attendant and just has funny stories from her travels.
The Naked Scientist! It’s both British and awesome.
That’s just about the list of crafty podcasts I listen to as well! I just discovered craft cast, and Alex Anderson’s quilt podcast. As far as non-crafty listening goes, I listen to the Dinner Party Download, Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me, This American Life, and the Relevant Magazine podcast.
I haven’t been listening to podcasts for very long, but I recently found one called “Must Stash Yo”, done by Matt of ManSpun Yarns.
I’ve just ordered my first spinning wheel (!!), so I’m sure these lists of podcasts will come in handy.

Hey!
I love the Radiolab podcast. I’m totally addicted to it.
thanks for your selection : i was looking for crafty podcast but had not found much so far.
Ps: now that the new colette patterns, i hope we’ll see what you were working on soon…
My mom has a bunch of old radio shows on her mp3 player, which are like condensed versions of movies practically with the same movie stars!
I love podcasts! These aren’t crafty ones, but they’re still worth listening to:
-APM’s The Splendid Table
-KCRW’s Good Food
-The Third Coast Festival
-This American Life
-Saltcast (mostly stories, but sometimes they have podcasts on the technicals of radio)
-WNYC’s Radiolab
-KPCC’s OffRamp
Enjoy!
Can you please start making videos again on youtube? I love the hairstyles so much and it is so inspiring!
Love /Arie
I absolutely adore Smartmouths. I don’t know if it will appeal to your readers, but it helps me stay informed on politics and pop culture, while still making me laugh.
I love listening to podcasts, and I’m always looking for new ones. Thanks for the links!
When I sew I love to listen to radio shows. Jack Benny is my favorite, his middle shows are the best, he often does spoofs on old movies. There are gillions of them, Amos and andy is a fun one too, so is command performance. If your not into comedy suspense is a fun one! You can listen to them free online, my favorite web site is http://www.OTR.net.
I love your blog! Keep up the good work!
Camilla
Wow… I didn’t know such things existed! When I sew, I like listening to The Teaching Company courses on CD. They’re a good substitute when I get nostalgic for college.
Thank you so much for the podcast idea! Now I have something to listen to while I clean up the kitchen for my dye tutorial. Wish me luck that I don’t get random salespeole at the door, or my kids butting in like on my last video tutorial *rolls eyes*
