let’s play twenty questions

I have been slowly catching up on comments from the past few weeks, but am starting to despair I’ll ever get through them all (and feeling quite guilty too!). One thing I am trying to do is reply to questions that were asked in specific posts (and reply to email questions as well). But, just in case I accidentally skipped a reply, or didn’t see a comment with a question, I thought this would be a great opportunity to do a “frequently asked questions” post! I must admit, this is also my not-so-sly way to beefing up a f.a.q. page I’m also putting together. lol!

Feel free to post a question you have about the blog, my sewing, knitting, vintage clothing… whatever you’re curious about! I’ll do my best to either answer them here, or in a separate post! Just to make things neat and tidy, let’s give the question submissions a deadline of Saturday, December 12. So ask away!

    Ooohh, first comment! :P
I’ve got a question (or two)about your knitting projects.

1)Where do you find your vintage knitting patterns? Is it mostly via the internet?

2)What kinds of yarn/substitutions do you suggest/use – I know acrylic wasn’t available until fairly recently.

    Have a great day <3

    Hey Casey!

I was googling vintage wedding and came across your blog. I’ve stumbled upon HAVEN! It’s like an explosion of inspiration. I just love your blog, your outfit, and your tutorials on YouTube (I can actually make hair do’s from the forties now). I was just wondering, can you make a living of what you do? Sewing, blogging, graphic designing – or do you have a “regular” job aswell? I do lots of different things myself and would love to hear what others do to make a living of it … :)

Thanks so much! Keep on shining ;)

    Kat

This is superficial but I must ask — you always have such delightful vintagey hair in your photos.
Question 1 – How long does it take you normally to do up your hair?
Question 2 – Any chance of you sharing your styling tips in a video? : )

My question is about your eyebrows–do you get them professionally waxed or do you do it yourself? Tips on recreating vintage eyebrows?

    Thanks!

First off I want to let you know how inspiring you are and adorable, love everything you make and wear. I also enjoy sewing and I have recently picked up knitting. My question is how do you manage to fit everything in your schedule and still be able to look like a breath of fresh air.

    ♥Darla

    Hi!

Firstly, I thoroughly enjoy your blog! Thank you so much for sharing your creativity and inspiration!

My question is this: I have in my possession a 1950s U.S. Navy Peacoat which belonged to my grandfather when he was in the service during that time (complete with an unopened pack of Lucky Strikes from the same time!). Recently it was accidentally ripped by someone and – being as it has significant sentimental value – I was rather upset. Do you have any repair tips? it is a 90 degree angled ‘V’ shape near one of the buttons on the front which renders that button unusable.

    Many thanks!
    Catherine

    hi casey!

i’m looking into getting a car that i can fix up and show, and i’m planning on redoing the inside with fun printed fabrics. i love vintage styles and bright colors, so i’ve thought about doing prints like the bright yellow and hot pink leopard print and florals found in betsey johnson designs. the only problem is i have no idea where to find such fabrics! do you know where i can find something like that?

btw i’m so jealous of your talent and creativity :)

Hi Casey! I am so glad I stumbled upon your blog a couple of weeks ago. I never thought there was anyone out there that shared my love of all things vintage the way you do :) My question is, at which vintage stores do you shop? I live in Ohio, and I noticed that you lived in Virginia, so if you could let me know of some cool vintage/antique shops, I would really appreciate it. I understand, however, that you may not want to give away your secrets, but are there any online stores that you frequent at least? Thanks <3

What got you into dressing vintage? How long Have you been dressing vintage for? Your wedding pics were gorgeous, maybe a bit of background on how you put your wedding together?

    Hi!
I love your style, and this blog is just lovely.
A question, well a sugestion really, it would be grate if you put all the vintage patterns together, because is very interesting to see how things changed since then. And they are perfect for making clothes look just like they used to. And you should do the same with your tips, about hair and beauty stuff, wich are amazing.
    Congratulations on your lovely work!
I´m a reader from Argentina, all across America!!
Sorry for the possible eanglish mistakes!

    Un saludo grande!!

    1) How and when did you learn to sew?
    2) Do you find pjs just as cute and vintage-inspired as the rest of your wardrobe? (I’m on a winter pj hunt…as my previous flannels now look like something belonging to Huck Finn!)

Just curious – what’s your average day like? You seem to accomplish so much. I’m jealous! I’d love to learn how you schedule your day.

Thank you ever so much for taking time to share your comment! Although I try to answer questions, I am not always able to respond to each comment individually. But please know that I appreciate from the bottom of my heart every comment I receive!
