[ work-in-progress gingerbread house. it still has a lot of neatening up needed! ]
I hope you all don’t mind if I don’t do a big post for today–I’ve got a million and one things to do on my list, and am a bit overwhelmed by the idea of trying to jot down a substantial blog post! I was going to show you photos of the dress I made to test one of the new designs for Colette Patterns, but I’m afraid if I do (I haven’t edited the photos yet), something won’t get done that needs to (menu planning, anyone?! lol).
So instead, here’s a sneak peak at the work-in-progress gingerbread house! (Things are still being neatened and decorated; so it’s a bit of an “ugly duckling” right now.) One thing I’ve been thinking about a lot lately is what I’m going to wear for Christmas. I have a red crepe dress halfway finished, but it’s a heavier crepe, so I’m not sure it’ll work for the weather that is being forecast (mid 60s). Oh well–I’m sure I can wrangle something festive out of my wardrobe! Do you have any special outfits planned for Christmas? Do tell me!
Thank you all so much for the lovely comments you’ve left of late–they have been warming my heart so much!

I for one think that the “house” will look fantastic when it’s finished.

Wishing you and your Sailor hubby a fantastic Christmas – may it be full of joy! -

Oh, this is looking cute! How did you do the windows? I’m so impressed!
I know you will come up with something very creative to wear for Christmas. I haven’t decided what to wear over to Grandad’s on Christmas Eve. I have several options, but think I will wait to see what the weather is like. Right now it is f r e e z i n g here.
XOXO

I definitely get the menu planning craziness; I am currently planning Christmas Eve dinner for 15 people. So far I know we’re having Ham and a pomegranate-molasses glazed Goose, but that’s all that’s seriously planned.
Your Gingerbread house is Amazing! I can never get the icing to be cement-y enough so I’ve started using melted sugar as the bonder instead; it is much stronger and dries in a few seconds.
I haven’t planned far enough ahead to decide what I’ll be wearing for Christmas. All I know is that Christmas Eve I’ll be wearing an apron and Christmas day I’ll be wearing red lipstick.
Also, being in Canada, it is FREEZING here. Today it is currently minus 25 with windchill, and it’s only going to get worse as the months progress. Winter should end sometime around May, so you should count yourself lucky to live in such a warm climate.
Hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday. Happy Christmas to you and yours! -

It looks great! I’m so impressed with the gumdrop shingles:) I go home for a week for Christmas and always bring along six or seven of my latest, favorite vintage finds. Home is Florida though, so I have to plan for a drastic change in weather. I’m sure you’ll look lovely no matter what you choose. Good luck with all of your plans!

I love it, the roof the windows, it’s adorable! You are one busy bee Casey. Christmas is pretty casual for us. I hope to change that in years to come. I know you will pick something beautiful to wear as always.

In fact, the dress I’ll be wearing for the holidays is also one of Colette’s new patterns: the Oolong in a rich red brushed twill with ice blue lining. I can’t wait. I have a party next Tuesday that will be its debut. But I still don’t have pictures of mine either.

My first thought: “Wow! What a beautiful gingerbread house!” LOL I obviously think it looks great just the way it is.
Good luck finding something to wear for the holidays! I hadn’t even thought of it yet. Thanks for the reminder!

Wow Casey, you are just a happy christmas whirlwind aren’t you!! Love looking at all your christmas pics and reading about all your plans and preparations – I barely got my lights up on the tree yesterday, lol! Your gingerbread house looks perfect as is – how in the world did you make those gorgeous windows? Hope your Christmas is a merry and joyful one and I am sure no matter what you wear you will look fabulous as always.

I love your gingerbread house! Wow! You have some mad skills, there

I was going to make a cute 50s dress from a fun print I found called “Holiday hostess” but everyone’s out and I’ve only got 7/8 of a yard. Doh! After fabric bin raiding in the garage last night I came out with some green fabric I can’t remember the name of right now that wants to be made into a 50s Squaw dress. But I might make a run to the discount fabric store and see if they have red veveteen… as you can see, I’m in wardrobe limbo, too! -

I love your little gingerbread house! It’s so cute! Unfortunately when I used to make them, I never knew what to do with them afterwards, and I winded up dumping them…instead of eating them.

Everything looks so lovely! My house is still undecorated and cookies are unbaked. I had to do a weeks worth of blog posts in advance and schedule them to post since I am up to my ears in sewing for my daughter’s friend’s upcoming wedding. I feel so used! LOL! Did I mention I retired? Yeah, and I am still being railroaded into sewing, sigh. However in the world am I going to get the presents wrapped and the tree trimmed? Eepp! *meltdown commencing*

Love the house. It will look great when it’s done (which I never doubted).
A Christmas outfit hadn’t even crossed my mind yet. Yikes. I’ve been so busy cooking/baking/cleaning I completely forgot about it. I haven’t gotten past figuring out what I’m wearing to the airport tomorrow and how I want to fix my hair.
I look forward to pictures of what you put together for your Christmas outfit!
We are all going to need a weeks vacation after the Holidays!

Mmm..Gingerbread house! I’ll be making one of those with my nieces on Christmas Eve, if we get there on time.
As for what to wear, last year I wore a gorgeous 1950′s cocktail gown I inherited from one of my mum’s clients. We hemmed it much shorter to ‘modernize’ it. Its absolutely beautiful, see it here. http://www.flickr.com/photos/daisy_k/3181247230/
This year for my party though, I’ve thrifted the perfect LBD. Pictures to come after my party!! -

It’s looking good! Each year I gear myself up to do a gingerbread house, and then it never happens. I think maybe next year’s the year… haha
