I wouldn't have thought to do that myself--what you've come up with looks terrific. Right now I am into sewing beautiful 1940s full slips to go under the warm dresses I plan to be sewing over the coming months. They will be cheery, pretty little silky things when I'll otherwise be bundled up in heavy fabrics. I think slips bring infinitely more pleasure than linings ever could!
