[ necessary reading material. always good when you're sick! ]
Excuse me while I take a break from blogging today. I managed to catch some nasty cold/flu bug, and all I want to do is curl up on the couch, nap and read! Instead today I thought I’d post a meme that I’ve had in my draft post folder for over a month–yikes! I’m so awful at posting these, even though I am intensely excited when someone tags me! hehe!

Sweet Natalie awarded me with an “Awesome Girl” award, with the theme being to tag 10 other bloggers and list 10 things about myself. I never know what to say about myself–what weird or interesting things would other people find entertaining? So hopefully this won’t be boring! haha!
- I tend to be very shy when I meet new people. It takes me a bit of time to really warm up, and sometimes I worry that people think I’m too stand-offish. Once I do warm up to people, I tend to be rather silly and laugh a lot (a can be somewhat loud. It’s a family trait.)!
- I cook and bake a lot. Part of it is to save money by not eating out constantly, and the other is because I really love to cook! My parents taught me to cook when I was younger, and the hours of helping them have paid off handsomely. I’m constantly experimenting with new cuisines: right now I’m on a Middle Eastern/Mediterranean kick.
- I used to be really snobbish about watching reality tv shows, but over time I’ve managed to let a few creep into my tv watching. Namely Project Runway and Top Chef. I guess that’s not surprising considering I sew and like to cook! lol.
- I didn’t travel a lot until I was older. My first “big” trip was to San Diego with my girl friends when I was 20. I fell in love with SoCal: the weather, laid back beach towns, palm trees, Mexican restaurants… I seriously ge “homesick” for a place I’ve never lived for more than a week! lol. Both my husband and I hope to move out there one day!
- I love to sing along to music when I’m at home or in the car, but don’t ask me to sing solo if you know what’s good for your ears!
- The first patterns I ever drafted were for my Barbies. I found an old book from the 60s in the library on making clothing patterns for antique dolls, full of little 1870s bustle skirts and poufy-sleeved dresses from the 1890s. So my Barbies were dressed accordingly!
- I like very spicy food–the spicier, the better! I grew up in a household where the spice rack was constantly and generously used, and so I prefer food that has very distinct flavor (bland doesn’t fly with me). The funny thing that was when I got married and started cooking for my husband, we had a few times where the foods were too spicy for him! Thankfully though, his palette seems to have adjusted a bit. hehe!
- My mom nick-named me “lady bug” when I was little (not sure why–any insight into this, Mom?). I’ve kind fo held on to that as my “special symbol” ever since. When my husband and I started dating, I told him about it, and to this day whenever he sees anything with ladybugs on it, he points it out to me! Although really, the only thing I have with a ladybug on it is a tote bag I made a few years ago.
- I have an enormous sweet tooth–really, it’s quite bad! (I blame my parents for passing this trait on to me.) I try and control it, since I’m sure it’s really not healthy to live on that much sugar, but the holidays are probably the most tempting times for me! Some sweets (like autumn themed candy corn), I politely request my husband doesn’t bring home. ‘Cause the bag will be gone in no time! Cake, apple pie, homemade marshmallows, gumdrops, and Reese’s peanut butter cups are my biggest temptations.
- Oh darn… I can’t think of a 10th item! Just my luck. See, I really don’t think I’m that interesting. lol!
Excuse me that I’m super lazy (I blame being sick. haha!) and don’t post a list of 10 people to tag. If you have a blog and are reading this, consider yourself welcome to snag the meme and post it on your blog (if you’d like!).
I hope you all are having lovely Wednesdays! Off to curl up under my favorite quilt and drink some more orange juice…

I hope you feel better soon. I’m with you on the candy corn. I just caved and bought a big bag two days ago and its already gone. Its just so darn good:) I’m going to make Scottish tablet for Halloween, but luckily we’re having people over so it should be all gone by the end of the night.
Its great to find out more about you…you’re definitely an interesting person.

i just had to comment on this one. ME TOO!! i remember i made a blouse for my barbie from the 1890s with huge puffy sleeves. i made a note that the pattern looked like a tree and thought that was the coolest thing ever. i can’t remember the name of the book, but i did photocopy it from the library (we had a huge copier we got for free). i should see if i still have it!

Aww Casey this was great! I really love when people do tags like these because it sort of feels like we get to know each other better through the tags! i hope you’re feeling better, give in to your sweet tooth while you’re sick! Indulge in all your favourites!

I really enjoyed reading this Casey. I love hearing about other bloggers and their personal traits. You must be an amazing wife to your Sailor Husband – you cook, you sew and I’m sure you clean pretty well too! And you love my one weakness – Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups – they are the best! You can only buy them in certain places here but when you find them it’s like Birthday and Christmas all at once!
Get better soon!

It was so fun to read this 10 things about you. It’s so great the first things you sewed were clothes for your Barbies, not a bad way to start out!
(Much less fabric involved if there’s a disaster!)
I’m the same way when I meet new people because I’m shy as well, I always worry that I come across as a snob or something.
Haha, and I know what you mean about the sweet tooth! I have a terrible one and I should ask that candy not be brought near me either, I’m still trying to lose weight from the Halloween candy I’ve been eating that got bought too early

I loved reading those 10 little facts =) thanks for posting them & I hope you’ll be feeling better very very soon!
p.s. I totally sympathize with the whole spicy food and cooking stuff…my parents raised me the same way, no asking for the mild version when going out to dinner! and no asking for something different if mom had a little too much fun with the spices while cooking dinner either! hehe in anycase I am now quite adventurous when it comes to food, but I have made a few little mistakes of my own…taking a friend to the wrong restaurant or cooking the wrong food…little thinking that the food would be too spicy! But one perk to my living near Los Angeles is that it is fairly easy to find interesting and intriguing food for relatively cheap prices (even if finding adventurous friends is harder =P)! I hope someday you’ll be able to make it out to Southern California again and go on some food adventures of your own! =) that was a rather long post script I’m afraid haha… anyway I hope you feel better soon!

OK, here’s the mother. I, too, have been sick today, but it’s definitely sinus related. I’ve spent the whole day in one of the recliners.

As to the “lady-bug” – I think it kind of started because you were always dressing up. You know – “little miss fashion”. I blame your Nana for taking you shopping for clothes a lot. It’s funny because you were sort of a tomboy when you were little. (there’s #10!)
I sure hope you feel better. Dad’s making dinner tonight as I am feeling whipped from this sinus thing.
XOXO

Just getting over a cold myself. Drink lots of fluids! I’m a lot like you, I’m shy at first. People use to think that I was a snob in high school because of it. But I am loud and goofy once you get to know me too. Get well.

LOVE spicey!! Carried hotsauce around with me while I was pregnant (both times!)…cuz I couldn’t eat it unless my mouth was on FIRE. Although…I found out I’m allergic to something spicey in buffalo wings. Not sure what part it is yet…but it doesn’t stop me from eating it! Also love to bake…Ever since I discovered my mom’s Fanny Farmer’s cookbook when I was 11 or so…I never made anything from a box again!

Thanks for posting even though you aren’t feeling well! My mom and dad nicknamed me “punk-kin” when I was little. So one year in college, I made it my halloween costume with a pumpkin decorated trash bag as a dress (used for collecting leaves), black fishnets, green combat boots, and dyed my hair green…. the best halloween, ever. My parents regretted the nickname that year.

I hope you are feeling better soon. -

Ha ha, I love that you feel the same way about reality shows . . . usually I hate them and they make me depressed, and at the gym they play the worst ones (the dancing ones and More to Love and bachelorette nonsense) and it makes me feel stupid even to look at the screen! But Project Runway is so much fun to watch, and Top Chef too even though I could never cook for the life of me.
Oooh, and candy corn!!!! Same here, I just can’t keep sweets in my apartment!
I hope you feel better soon!!! At least it looks like you have lovely things to read!!
