- Tropical dress: thrifted at Goodwill
- Black pumps: unlisted brand, Ross
- Chunky bracelet: a favorite necklace (from H&M) wrapped around my wrist. It jangles when I move!
- Earrings: simple gold hoops from the Getty Museum
I haven’t done an outfit post in a few weeks, have I? It’s not that I haven’t been dressing up–every time I think about taking a photo I’m on my way out the door! lol. I need to get better about that. But I managed to remember to snap a photo of this “new” dress on Tuesday. I haven’t been able to thrift a whole lot of amazing things since we moved here–in all honesty the thrifting in my town is slightly pathetic. (It depresses me greatly. My wardrobe is not too happy either!) This dress, however, recently jumped out of the racks on a recent trip to Goodwill. The 40s styling, faux sarong draping and tropical print–it just screams Florida to me! Plus, since most vintage sarong dresses from this era are really pricey, this “80s does 40s” dress is the perfect alternative!I think, however, it might look even more spectacular with a narrow belt… What do you think?

I love this dress!
In Germany we say: Das ist ein lecker Mädchen.
In English: yummy girl and a yummy dress.
Love it!!!
You look stunning. I would never pick a dress like this from a rack, but seeing it on you makes me realize I maybe should look for some bolder prints
Amazing dress! I love 80s does the 40s because most of the time you get the 40s style in crazy 80s patterns. What could be more fun?
I am extremely jealous! I just love this dress!
what an amazing dress… i may have passed it up, but seeing it on you, i’m craving tropical prints!
That dress is a thrift find? Amazing! What a glorious print.
Such a lovely dress! <3
wow! it’s amazing!
You are always so gorgeous! I agree, a narrow belt would look darling with this dress!
I’m exactly the same way re: dressing up and not having time to snap a pic! I always dress up nice when I have somewhere to be…
That dress is amazing on you! I know a lot of people probably couldn’t pull it off but you totally do and it fits you like a glove. It’s great as-is but I think a skinny off-white, navy, or olive-coloured (to match the print) belt could definitely work!
Hello, I’m Sarah Louise, I just found your blog and I love it!
Casey! This is an exceptionally beautiful outfit post! The dress looks fantastic on you! Hope you are well sweetie x
Hi Casey, love the dress! I discovered your blog a couple of months back through one of your 40s hair tutorials on you-tube, and I wanted to let you know how much I enjoy reading it. I have always loved the 40s style but you have inspired me to incorporate it into my wardrobe more, to take more care over my outfits in the day to day, and not feel silly for dressing up. I am currently on night-shift and your pretty and sweet blog gives me a lift and a breath of fresh air. Your blog makes one very tired and frequently cranky doctor’s night shifts a little bit more bearable, and for that I am grateful! Thank-you
i love it without the belt, but a belt could be nice too, just to change things up a bit. that print is wild! it looks great on you.
WOW! That is such a stellar find! You look amazing! I just love the sarong styles!
Wow, you look gorgeous! This dress style suits you really well. You can add a belt if you like, I actually think it would look good either way.
Lovely!
Just wonder… how would that dress (or one like it) look on a big girl :p?
I usually go for save: black (although I really like black, and it often makes me feel classy).
Love that dress! Isn’t it amazing what wonderful things are just given away to thrift stores?!
this reminds me of a dress from the movie about Dylan Thomas called “the edge of love”. You should check it out!
I love that dress! The print and shape is amazing!
It would look great with a simple belt( so it doesn’t take the eye away from this lovely print.
Would you mind if I linked your blog in my list of lovely blogs?
I just wanted to share your lovely post
Ooh, Casey this is gorgeous!! And I just read your comment about wanting Flake bars, and well, we have them EVERYWHERE here! And there are all sorts, there is the original, and then the snowflake (white chocolate) and then a dark chocolate version. And I too love them
And, If you like, I can send you some? It can be a little christmas present from me to you, and perhaps a bribe so I can win that gorgeous carpet bag (which I actually need to enter first!). Maybe I shouldn’t say that in your comments section… Anyway, really more than happy to send you some NZ choclate, even if its not for bribe purposes, let me know
You found that at goodwill? I need to start looking in my local one. It’s so cute.
I don’t know anyone who could pull off a tropical dress like that except for you–you really make it look glamorous 1940s girl at a Hawaiian nightclub!
i think it looks just perfect the way it is. the colors are stunning and quite refreshing when compared to the colors i’ve been seeing this fall.
Gorgeous! Amazing find. I love it! And it looks great with those shoes… and I agree about a skinny belt, too
that dress is an amazing find!!! I haven’t come close to finding something like that at my goodwill (mines quite the epitome of pathetic haha) but that gives me hope that maybe someday a spectacular dress will find me at the goodwill
. (fabulous outfit by the way… i love the necklace-turned bracelet idea!)
That is a great dress!
And I’ve bought a bunch of things to adapt but well, I haven’t got to it.
I don’t dedicate much time to thrifting anymore (well, shopping really) and I find it challenging to find something that looks good, fits, and doesn’t cost too much. With all those criteria, no wonder!
Thanks for the inspiration Casey!
I’ll keep it simple, what a lovely dress! It looks heavenly on you doll
I’m so jealous! I love the little side flair.
I think it looks perfect like this, and would look amazing with a narrow belt too.
ooh…. lovely dress. I never thought of 80′s does 40′s until now… what a splendid idea! Also, you have given me inspiration to wear a necklace as a bracelet… thank you! I agree… a narrow belt would look wonderful with this.
