10.05.09 outfit

[ all dressed up and only housework to do! ]

  •  Blue dress: Trashy Diva
  •  Gingham apron: a gift from my friend Sophia!
  •  Tropical print heels: small shop in the mall
  •  Cherry earrings: Claire’s
  •  Petticoats (not seen): vintage/thrifted

Monday dawned bright and early, and I was faced with the enormity of the housework I had to do. Sewing like a mad woman the previous two weeks meant that the normal flow of chores didn’t get done to the extent I’d like, and things had gotten a little chaotic. I’m not the type that demands perfect neatness all the time (goodness knows I generate enough mess myself from all my projects!), but the feeling like it was all growing and multiplying was starting to get a bit creepy…

10.06.09 {coffee + cigarettes}

[ my "wild" shoes. I've had these since January and only pull them out occasionally! ]

But to make the task a bit more fun and exciting, I decided to dress up a bit! I’ve been wearing my favorite Trashy Diva dress a lot lately (it’s still hot here), and it never ceases to make my smile and feel super elegant! I also put on a sweet little pink, gingham apron my lovely friend Sophia sent me recently–it was just the thing to keep my dress spot free! I don’t always dress up to this extent when I do a serious house clean, but some days it just makes the task more pleasant.

I can really understand how this outfit will make the housework a lot more fun. And I think I’m going to follow your example. I have a lot, a LOT, of ironing to do (procrastinating it for weeks and only ironing what needs to be worn creates a big, BIG, pile) and I think I am going to do that in a pretty little dress. With a cardigan, I think. Beccause here, unfortunately, fall really entered..

Oooh those shoes are darling!
I’ve been following your dress-making saga on my Google Reader and just wanted to say bravo! You looked gorgeous. Wish I could sew like that!

Chelito October 7, 2009 at 08:00

Wow! Did you even clean in the high heels? I feel like such a shlub for cleaning in my sweatpants. Haha. Maybe I’ll try this and cleaning will be even more fun!

Maegan October 7, 2009 at 08:37

If I want to seriously clean…I put on socks and shoes. Seems to make a difference.

Sal October 7, 2009 at 09:15

That dress had better make you smile! You look positively ravishing in it, lady. And I adore those sandals, too.

meaghan October 7, 2009 at 09:34

awww you look absolutely adorable! yesterday i wore my new wedges i got in the mail to do my baking! i even paired a gingham print dress with a gingham print apron. there’s something about dressing up that can be motivating! :) when i’m too cozy i sometimes get tempted to just curl up and watch a movie, but when i feel neat and tidy then i want my house to match!

Quincy October 7, 2009 at 11:00

Perfect! We all have to dress up while cleaning once in a while :o )

Erin October 7, 2009 at 11:49

Casey, you crack me up. I, too, get dressed up when I need to get down to business. It helps me focus. Besides, those sassy shoes need their strutting-around time!

Fiona October 7, 2009 at 12:28

Oh my, what a pair of gorgeous heels!

treeathie October 7, 2009 at 12:44

Love the apron. Maybe I need to follow suit and clean house all dressed up!

Jennifer October 7, 2009 at 13:49

I agree! A little dressing up can do wonders, and can certainly make even the most tedious task a little less unpleasant.

How fun, I’ve never actually worn my vintage aprons to clean/cook in… I’m always a bum and just wear my PJs when cleaning! That shade of blue is gorgeous and I love the style of the dress. :)

Such a cute outfit!!

Cedar October 7, 2009 at 17:20

Darling outfit! I need to pull out my apron collection. I have been wearing the same boring gingham one for weeks! Thanks for the inspiration!!

Esz October 7, 2009 at 18:33

Those shoes are so cute. I’ve been wanting a similar pair for a long time now. And the TD dress is so awesome. Did you get yours taken up? I have a red one which I think needs just about 2 inches off the end.

Jen October 7, 2009 at 19:13

Wow, you look amazing!! I may just need to steal this! I was going to make myself a blue halter neck dress this weekend (only, i really should be sewing for the shop at the moment – cough!). And I have the perfect apron to go with it. And cleaning in heels is always the best isn’t it?

Ann October 7, 2009 at 20:09

hmmm…I bet ‘sailor husband’ loves coming home from work to see you like this!

Love the apron. I’m always wearing one, sometimes vintage, sometimes homemade. Why? Well I’m lucky enough to be a housewife. So I stay at home and, um, clean and cook, yeah! and never, ever have all day Buffy the Vampire Slayer marathons. Never.

Danielle October 7, 2009 at 21:13

Very cute outfit, I love the heels!

Lizzy October 7, 2009 at 22:08

That dress is so adorable, you’ve posted pictures of you wearing it before (I only remember because I thought the dress was so great).
Such a cute outfit I love the apron, and the shoes, which are so adorable.
You definitely look all set for some housework ;)

Kassie October 7, 2009 at 23:59

Andrea October 8, 2009 at 15:27

That’s such a gorgeous dress! I dress up to do housework sometimes too – it makes the whole thing a lot more fun. (And I usually vacuum in heels.) :)

Nadja October 9, 2009 at 04:26

Ha ha! Now you made my houswork more fun!
Sweet dress and you look lovely as always!
(now I have to run to the closet and look after a nice clean dress to clean in!)

So lovely! This blue is just perfect on you! I am just barely getting into sewing clothing and you are an inspiration! :)

jen October 9, 2009 at 14:48

dressing up for housework is a good idea! i’m sure it provides more motivation. (sorta like wearing workout clothes you look good in, instead of over-sized old sweats!)

Eunice October 9, 2009 at 17:49

I love that dress! I have it in red. I just a petticoat and I’m all set. Love the shoes too.

Lilee October 11, 2009 at 04:50

ahhh i love the colour and the shoes are too cuteeee~

Amara October 11, 2009 at 18:01

Wonderful Dress to broom in! I always enjoy baking with a wide skirted dress… even though it is entirely unpractical. @amazinglyamara

Emma Wallace October 11, 2009 at 21:57

Those are darling shoes!!

I’m excited for fall (I live in PA and you’re right – the foliage is breathtaking), but seeing this pretty blue dress makes me wish it were still warm here.

hillary October 12, 2009 at 23:20

OH I saw this dress and thought to myself “OMG I LOVE THIS DRESS!!” I scroll down see it is from Trashy Diva and think how do I know that name. OH OH I own this dress! In Navy. I haven’t worn it this year and now I fear it is to cold but you really have me wanting to pull it out.
Gorgeous! I also really dig your poses.
