Thank you so much, dear friends, for sharing in my excitement over the MS Weddings feature this week! It meant so much to us to read over the sweet comments (and early anniversary wishes!)!
Is it just me, or is there something utterly magical about a 3-day weekend? We don’t have any “big” plans (unless you want to count furniture repair as big. lol!), but I’m looking forward to the time with my Sailor and some hopefully productive sewing (and knitting… since I can’t seem to put it down!). I’ve got to finish the shirtwaist dress I started (it needs a zipper, which I conviently forgot to pick up before I started this!), a little tshirt refashion, and start a muslin for my dress for the Navy Ball. I plan on doing a big post about my inspiration for the Navy Ball gown next week–so stay tuned!
- An amusing and fun list of 1920s slang. Can you imagine saying some of these in daily conversation now?!
- Jen is having a fantastic giveaway for a custom made skirt!
- How to add an adorable bow to a skirt.
- A fun post of beautiful 1930s coats…
- Francis Baker posted a lovely post all about teatime–my favorite time of day!

This week’s vintage inspiration image is from the 20s. Although summer is starting to wane in some locales, it’s still furiously hanging on here. So despite my pining for autumn, I still am keeping summer firmly in mind. These beautiful pieces just look so effortlessly casual; even 80 years later! The pocket details are what really got me–designers and manufacturers used such unique shapes and accents on pockets in past eras. I feel that many modern clothes are just stuck in the “basic pocket rut”; they aren’t really interesting or add a whole lot to the overall aesthetic of the garment. I love the little triangular ones!
I hope you all have a simply lovely and splendid weekend!

I love chunky bracelets, those covered with jangly charms or big statement bracelets! One of my favorite things to do is sit down with my jumble of costume jewelry bits and pieces and come up with ways to multi-purpose things. This “mix and match bracelet” is inspired by wearing a long chain necklace as a bracelet and embellishing it with various things! It’s a great way to expand a bit of your jewelry stash…
All you’ll need is a long chain necklace (or buy a length of chain from the bead or hardware store and attach a closure to the end yourself), charm bracelets, and an assortment of your favorite pins and brooches. The end result is a “statement” bracelet that I love pairing with otherwise simple outfits to add a bit of zing! Be sure to click on the images for the step-by-step comments.

I can’t believe it’s almost been a year since Sailor Husband and I tied the knot! Some days it feels like we’ve been married for much longer (and I mean that in the nicest way), and the wedding a distant memory. hehe! So imagine my utter surprise when an editor from the Martha Stewart Weddings blog contacted me about featuring my wedding this month. I cannot tell you how excited and flattered I am (I swear it’s all Kate’s fault–her photography made our wedding look so good!). So if you want to (you don’t have to of course!), you might want to go take a peek over at the MS Weddings blog and the slideshow to see the feature on our wedding. It was a fun experience to remember many of the moments of that day (especially since our 1 year anniversary is a little over 2 months away). I feel so honored to have our wedding featured–I’m seriously jumping up and down here!
A big thanks to Kate Headley, Shira at MS Weddings and all the lovely friends and family members that pitched in to help make our wedding happen!

Happy first day of September!!! I’m so excited today; this month just seems ripe with things yet done, projects to be started (including the gown I need for the Navy Ball coming up!), and places to be seen. Do you have any special wishes for this month?
I wandered down to the mailbox yesterday morning to drop some things off for Monday’s pick up, and checked our mail. My box of yarn from Knit Picks had been delivered over the weekend! Which of course made me laugh because I could have gotten quite a bit of knitting done if I had known it was waiting for me, but it was probably just as well I was blissfully unaware (I sewed instead)! lol. That being said, I did manage to get started on the new cardigan yesterday evening, and cast on the back, knitted the bottom band and started the body knit pattern. I’m so excited! The only thing is I think I didn’t order enough yarn… oops! It’s looking beautiful so far; the yarn is a lovely weight and very soft.
Speaking of sweaters… One of my favorite things to do is refashion and restyle sweaters to fit my needs. So many times I run across a sweater that is a luxurious fiber, or maybe the perfect color, or just something that catches me eye. But maybe the style isn’t the most flattering (read: boxy!) and I have to refit it to make it work. I have a couple ideas for tutorials on how to refashion your own cardigan; would anyone be interested? It seems like a great, thrifty project for early autumn…
