falling in love

After mouthing off that I hadn’t seen anything terribly inspiring from Anthropologie last week, I had to eat my words! I feel like I’m the most wishy-washy gal when it comes to fashion. lol! I spent a hour or so Saturday browsing around the site, and I found a handful of designs that I’m loving and I think are fantastic ideas for my current style conundrum. Namely that fall is approaching and it happens to be my favorite season style-wise. But, I wonder, how can I integrate some fall flair into my wardrobe with the temperatures still in the 90s outside?

I have never really been able to afford Anthropologie prices, and now it’s a shop that is really out of my budget. I love to go “style hunting” though; whether walking through the store, browsing the beautiful catalogs or website, I find I can usually cull a few ideas that I can adapt for my own needs. So as I’ve been daydreaming about the perfect, cross-over fall wardrobe (one that works in the heat, but still evokes the feeling of autumn!), I’ve been gathering up ideas for things I could do myself (on a teeny budget).

Now I’m off to finish my Monday housework and then go do some sewing! I spent most of Sunday morning and afternoon working on the 1940s shirtwaist dress I’m making, and I made quite a bit of progress. Enough so that I can safely say I’m coming down the home stretch on this project! Just a few more seams, hemming and making the belt. I can’t wait to show it to you!

    Hello my dear Casey!
Such a long time that I haven’t commented, written or even carefully examined your blog. I did so today after an awful lot of decisions (I am moving to Leipzig and switching universities) and a trip to Winnipeg/Vancouver/Seattle with my sister. Well, how are you? I really like the way you layouted your fall fancies although I enjoyed quite a summer day today :-) . Right now I am very much into interior design and everything because we are moving into my new appartment (gorgeous one).

I would love to hear from you! Have a wonderful week and talk to you soon.
    Yours, Theresa

I was feeling the same way about lots of stores, including Anthropologie, but looks like I need to bite my tounge as well. I love those brown shoes, I fell in love with them the moment I saw them in the catalog, I had been trying to forget about them because I really can’t and shouldn’t spend the money on them ;) That bag is so gorgeous as well, I hadn’t seen it yet!
Can’t wait to see the shirtwaist dress that you are working on, sounds lovely! :)

I am totally with you on Anthropologie prices. And I don’t really think the quality is great enough to deserve how expensive things are. I am always tempted by the great shoes on their website though. And I love that dark plaid dress!

Anthropologie prices are not very nice, I have to agree. I’ve never bought anything full price from them, always when it was on sale. I’m really loving some of their shoes right now, I just wish they didn’t carry so many that are made in China, that’s the only thing keeping me from buying a lot of shoes from them at the moment.

I do the same thing…and autumn is also my favorite season! Thank goodness I’m up in New England, as I’ve had enough of summer heat. I can’t wait to see the shirtdress.

the shoes are the best! and I like the ruffly oversized flower on that dress, too :) I just went into anthropologie today.. man alive, that place is bright and feminine and expensive. but it’s great to browse and then know what you need to make/seek out while thrifting later on! and it’s so much more rewarding to make something and give it your own twist. that’s the sort of brilliance that necessity and budgeting teaches us, I guess.

Anthro is definitely a style hunting place for me, too. Idea central in terms of embellishing clothes but the prices just do not justify what you get–it’s so hit & miss for quality, sadly!

I went to my first Anthropologie on Saturday! It was beautiful, but yes, WAY out of my price range too. Lots of inspiration, though.

I do love that plaid number at the top. Hmmm, I wonder if a similar fabric will be easier now to find online, considering how plaid is suddenly back in style.

Hurray for sewing projects! The final finishing bits are always the most tedious & time consuming part of a project for me. Good luck & happy sewing!

What sweetly wonderful items! The embellished white cardigan in particular caught my eye. I have cardigans in a small rainbow of hues, but it occurred to me a few weeks ago that I don’t have an all white (I have a white and black floral print number) or cream one, and thus have begun the hunt to find a lovely, fitted vintage inspired (or true vintage, if possible) one.

Oodles of congrats again on being featured on MS, that truly is amazing!!!

    ♥ Jessica

Hehe, thats so funny, I visited the Anthro site last night and love so many things, while the other week I went to the shop and found nothing. The website does have some killer boots though ($$$.

    ;)
