a little inspiration for your wednesday

Thank you all so much for your lovely comments on my shorts post! I’m taking a break from cleaning (we have company coming next week), and catching up on all the comments right now. I thought today I’d post some images I’ve had scanned and ready to go for a couple weeks (eek!). They’re from a 1947 pattern book one of my aunts sent me awhile ago. I love not only the illustrations, but the black and white technical drawings too! (Or perhaps this is just because I love to figure out how garments go together… lol!). Enjoy!

These are so lovely. I adore vintage clothes, especially from the 40s and 50s; I just wish I had the skills to make some myself. Thanks for sharing.

The set with the polka-dotted dress shows one of my FAVORITE silhouettes. I love dresses that exaggerate my shoulders AND show off my waist!

I totally have a pattern for the second dress with the exact same pattern picture!

These all look so elegant, thanks for sharing! I especially love the first and second – I have a 40s dress pattern that sort of combines them, a keyhole neckline with a peplum belt thing-y.

The 4th (last) pattern is my favorite, shortly followed by the polka dotted frock.

Thanks for sharing!

Wow, such beautiful artwork, they should be framed!! Love the last picture. Such wonderful hats!!

Maggi June 17, 2009 at 15:23

Those are such fun pretty pictures! *sigh* I would love a whole closet full of those dresses!

Oh wow, these are really beautiful! I wanted to show you one other thing: I’ve created an invitation for a little balcony party and I am sure you’ll like the illustrations: http://tinyurl.com/m4flqz !!
How are you and are you enjoying the summer?

I’d love to hear from you! Have a wonderful Wednesday (it must be with these inspirations ;-) )
Yours, Theresa

So inspirational! I love the dresses in the second and 4th picture!

Sarah June 17, 2009 at 16:13

Love those illustrations! I have a vintage pattern very similar to the second one that I’ve been wanting to try out. Those little capped sleeves are sweet!

Rosie June 17, 2009 at 16:33

Those are brilliant! I adore the black and white technical drawings! They are so neat!

Very inspirational indeed! I really like the 3rd one… I like the hat of that gal on the left, too.

These are gorgeous! I’ve been trying to get my hands on a 40′s/50′s pattern drafting book. I’ve found a few but they are so expensive and really rather out of my price range!

I LOVE these images! I would love to get my hands on books like this… It’s not a big deal right now since I’m teaching myself to sew and it’s sloooow going somedays!

Grace June 18, 2009 at 00:58

Ohh…I really like these! So fun!

Sarah June 18, 2009 at 01:16

Wow, I love the little hip ruffles on the first skirt… really great.

Alyssa June 18, 2009 at 08:57

I love the first and third ones. I too find myself examining to see how garments go together.

I love these pictures! I have always secretly wished that I had grown up in the 40s and 50s because women then wore such classic and flattering silhouettes!

penny June 18, 2009 at 12:57

they are all stunning! are you going to make any of them? x

Marie June 24, 2009 at 16:43

I LOVE these dresses! The technical drawings are really great!

random, i think i have that exact same pattern book! its in storage now so i can’t check.

weirdly enough, this is the same year dior’s new look was premiered, but i guess these pattern makers hadn’t caught on just yet.
