a box full of surprises

Something delightfully surprising showed up on my doorstep this weekend! My Aunt D. sent me a box full of antique and vintage goodies that she thought I might enjoy. My grandparents were in the antique business for many years and Aunt D. has been cleaning out the leftover stock and such lately, and this box was a result. She sweetly sent me a whole bunch of lovely things–my head is still swimming with all the beautiful treasures (from table linens to clothes)! (Thank you, Aunt D. if you’re reading this!)

I think my favorite is this beautiful 1920s beaded dress. The shoulders of the delicate fabric have split, but I am thinking that I can salvage the beautiful (and heavy!) beading. Perhaps embellishing the dress I want to make for the Navy Ball this autumn?

What a fantastic surprise!
I love all those beautiful ads and magazines, etc. from the 1800-early 1920′s. And I can’t wait to see how you reuse that beaded gown!
This is a kind of odd question, but what type of camera do you use? you take lovely pictures.

How wonderful! What a sweet aunt you have! I especially love the beading on that dress. I can’t wait to see what magic you will work on it. It’s always sad to see antique dresses that are no longer wearable in their original form (so common with silks from that period, especially), but very happy when they come to new owners who care enough to reuse the bits that are still salvageable. Unexpected surprises are always the best!

The beading from that 20′s dress will be stunning on your version of the EvaDress pattern. Those amazing tassels look like they would be such fun to have swishing around you as you walk. -
