spring romance

Hello, my dears! I hope you all had a lovely weekend. We’re still in the midst of the long, holiday weekend here, and I’ve been enjoying spending time with Sailor Husband and doing some pattern drafting!

I was going through some files on my computer, and came across a stash of pages I had scanned from some of my vintage magazines, so I thought I’d share a couple of my favorites with you! These are from April 1950, and embody one of the looks I love most from this point in the decade: a soft, romantic, feminine look. The lady-like colors, details and draping–I would just love to own a vintage dress like any of these! (Or make one…) The bolero-dress has stolen my heart though: I love the cut of the jacket and the textured lace bodice. And the matching belt. Belts that match the dress fabric kill me… they really do. One of the many things I love about vintage styles!

We won’t even go into the shoes at the bottom right hand corner of each page. Or the fact that the second image has my idea of perfect summertime footwear. If only I weren’t 59 years too late! lol!

hehe, these are wonderful! I’m always sad I was born 50 years too late…lol. Though I wouldn’t have my hubby :o ) Keep enjoying your weekend!

Oh how pretty!

You are so right about that pink outfit. I just love it, too. In the second one, the dress on the right catches my fancy!

They’re lovely. I really like the blue and white one on the right in the first pic.

Stupid question :) – what is pattern drafting? My sewing skills basically stop with hem tape!

I do love me some belts and have been making them…and trying to find inspiration in the vintage world. Mostly I’m looking for patterns on how to make them. I’ve been creating sash belts with vintage fabrics and ceramic buckles but always looking for more inspiration.

ps — just found your blog and it’s now my fave!

You must have the best collection of vintage magazines! And I don’t think I’ve ever seen sandals like those . . . they look so pretty and delicate!

Oh, these vintage dresses are so pretty. I really, really wish they had such dresses available in the stores right now. I’d rush out and buy one immediately!

I’m so glad you’ve been spending time with Sailor Husband! It’s good to have the hubby home :)

I am totally with you on the matching belts! They are the best!

I could happily die in either of the last two. SO pretty!
