playing hookie

lazy days of summer...

[ 1955 striped dress. image courtesy myvintagevogue. ]

I hope you all won’t mind if I don’t post anything terribly interesting today. I’m very tired after several late nights the past few days (staying up to keep Sailor Husband company while he finished writing and editing a 25 page research paper!), and don’t feel terribly awake or witty today. Rather, I think I’d like to catch up on emails and comments, edit some videos for my YouTube channel, listen to some audio books and podcasts, and spend a good chunk of time sewing. I bought fabric this weekend, and it’s calling my name…

However, I have a little task for you! I have lately been trying to go through my comments and visit all your lovely blogs (and be bowled over at the amazing, talented bunch you are!!!). I’m so awful about visiting blogs listed in the comments; mostly because I often don’t have the time, and they’re scattered across so many posts. But I’d love for this to be a formal “show my your blog!” post; so go ahead and comment with your blog’s url–I’d love to see it!

Until tomorrow…

Hi Casey, I love reading your blog and your tutorials are fabulous. You’ve inspired me to work on a few crafty projects (I just made a lovely vintage-styled hat!) and I’m in awe of your sewing skills. I’ve dug out my sewing machine and am going to have a go at making some skirts and dresses now! :)

Well, ya know me, lady. ;) Don’t blame you for wanting to play a little hooky. I’ve been out of the blog-loop for four days and it was a nice break!

Your blog is great! You should visit mine: http://americanrococo.blogspot.com

I just posted a 40s-inspired editorial from NY Times Mag from a few years ago. You’d really like it!

Breaks are wonderful!
I’ve had sewing plans for a few weeks now. I managed to tackle my mending pile and maybe now I will get to sewing something new!
Have a great day, Casey!

I’m still new at this so if you have any tips I’d love to hear them. ;] Thanks!

Now I’m left wondering if I can pull off a dress with a stripe pattern that big..

Sarah May 26, 2009 at 10:34

I definitely love reading your blog, it’s quite refreshing to have someone so inspired by older time periods rather than focused in trends of today.

As a musician with a vintage feel to her music (who is planning to have an even MORE vintage-y feel to the next cd), your website has been my bible for vintage fashion! Thank you so much for blog, your unpretentious posts and your lovely photos!

What’s the point of working hard if you can’t take it easy now and then? You’re such a busy bee, I’m sure you deserve it :)

Ashley May 26, 2009 at 12:13

I love that picture! It looks so happy and summery. Here is my pitiful offering in the form of a blog. Feel free to browse and laugh at my weirdness. I absolutely love your blog. Someday I find time to sew again, but until then I just read your blog!

Oooh, since you asked:

http://www.elventryst.blogspot.com

I do love vintage, but haven’t integrated it into my wardrobe like you have. I make my living as a model– I’m leaving for Istanbul tomorrow for two months– and my blog follows my travels as well as my random musings and etsy (vintage) shop updates.

Pansy Lane May 26, 2009 at 12:48
