sweet shoes

04.20.09 {sweet shoes}

Hello everyone! I hope you all had a lovely weekend. We just kept pretty low and quiet (except for all the grocery shopping we had to do); Sailor Husband had a boatload of homework to finish, and I occupied myself with a few little projects and some knitting. I’m making quick progress on that 40s snood I’m creating, so hopefully in a few days it’ll be done!

Remember these shoes I thrifted last month? They are so cute, but one is missing a button at the ankle strap. I finally picked up a leather needle this past weekend to repair the buttonless shoe, and raided my button collection for some suitable replacements! Here’s the three pairs that I settled on; I just can’t decide which I should go with… The flower shaped ones with the red centers are certainly calling me (they look like candy!). I would love your opinions: which buttons would you choose? Do tell!

Also, a bit of eye candy for your Monday! Did you know Lady Melbourne has a YouTube channel? She covers some enchanting and fashionable Melbourne spots in her videos, but they’re worth checking out for some inspiration and ideas. Have a lovely Monday, dear friends!

ooh, definitely the the ones with the red centers!

jen April 20, 2009 at 12:17

i like the red though i think i would pick the plain-ish ones in the upper right corner.

Jennifer April 20, 2009 at 12:21

I personally like the one with the red center, because it “pops” out and brings a subtle but neat little flare to the shoes.

Good luck deciding! :)

Emma Wallace April 20, 2009 at 12:23

The red ones look delicious! However, I’m with Jen and I think it would keep the versatility of the shoes better with the simpler ones. What did the other button look like?

Eartha April 20, 2009 at 12:26

I like the third ones best. : )

Martha April 20, 2009 at 12:39

I actually like the most simple ones – top right. I think they look the most appropriate with the style and time period of the shoe!

I just discovered your blog and I love it. Thanks for sharing with me.

Sal April 20, 2009 at 12:51

They’re ALL darling, but I like the flower/red center ones best.

And aren’t Lady Melbourne’s videos just tops? That girl’s got talent galore.

solanah April 20, 2009 at 13:25

I am craving those shoes, so pretty!

I love the ones with the little candy drop in the center, and the frilly cream ones. I would do the creme ones just to keep them versatile.

xoxo

Rebecca April 20, 2009 at 13:25

Ooh, those are all adorable buttons! You probably can’t go wrong with any of those choices. :)

gloria April 20, 2009 at 13:31

the ones!

Corinna April 20, 2009 at 13:42

I would also choose the ones with the red centre part, although i just rebuttoned a blazer with buttons similar to the white ones with the braided rim :)

Amanda Nicole April 20, 2009 at 13:54

The red! The red! I love it when I can actually use one of the many buttons I have horded.

Aya April 20, 2009 at 14:06

The one with red adds such an unexpected pop of color, and such a strong flavor of vintage vibe. The others are just as good, but blend more and don’t add anything unusual or striking :)

Marmielu April 20, 2009 at 14:11

Cute! My first choice is the red. I think that would be a nice little surprise. However, if you are inclined toward understatement, then the ones in the pic on the lower left.

Nancy April 20, 2009 at 15:07

hi casey!
i like the last choice
all cream with flower in the middle.

reilly April 20, 2009 at 15:24

I love the first pair but if you’re anything like me, and have tendencies to be a little matchy-matchy when it comes to clothes, I’d go with the third pair.

Darling Petunia April 20, 2009 at 16:28

The plainest pair in the top right corner look the most “right” to me.

Frankie - Swell Vintage April 20, 2009 at 16:57

Such an adorable idea! I love both x

Angelique April 20, 2009 at 17:07

I love the ones with the red center! I think they add a cute detail, and I think such a small amount of red won’t make the shoes themselves any less versatile.

They will be such lovely shoes no matter what you choose. I would love to see the end results!

Quincy April 20, 2009 at 17:14

All the buttons are so cute! :o )

Stephanie April 20, 2009 at 18:28

Hi Casey :)

Earlier in the day, when I saw your flickr update of these pictures, I had immediately said #1. The red was just a nice pop of color!!

But now when I look at them all, I kind of think the second ones (the ones on the right), match the shoes the best. One of the greatest things about these (adorable!) shoes is that you’ll be able to wear them with so many things! But even with that tiny pop of red, it might clash with a perfect outfit otherwise!

Either way, they are ALL absolutely wonderful :)

elise April 20, 2009 at 18:32

Definitely the red ones!

indigorchid April 20, 2009 at 18:37

For you – the red, definitely! Though the mention of versatility is a good point. I’d pair the shoes up with a bunch of things you would wear it with, and see if the red is a distraction. I can picture the red making you happiest, so it’s up to you if you think they pair less well with other outfits that way.

anja louise April 20, 2009 at 18:56

I think you got a lot of great advice already, but I think I might also go with the plain colored one if you want the shoes to go with tons of outfits, but I know you look great in red so I bet the red buttons wouldn’t keep you from wearing them. They are really nice shoes, they look like a fancy cake. :)

Kendall April 20, 2009 at 20:10

Hey Casey,
I like the last choice, the cream with the flower in the middle. Those shoes are too cute!

Can’t wait to see your snood, by the way ^_^

MissLilliBug April 20, 2009 at 20:20

Top Right button definitely will keep the feel of the shoe intact, vintage speaking…Why not switch them out? Maybe do the one that is calling out to you more and then when you get bored of that particular button you could always switch them out. It’s great to have choices. :) I love your blog, the design is beautiful

Quincy April 20, 2009 at 20:51

Hi again! I saw that you’re not able to watch Grey Gardens because you don’t have cable. If you would like I was going to record a copy on dvd for my Mama, I can make copy for you too? Let me know! :o )

Tanya April 20, 2009 at 21:11

I love the red buttons – they immediately reminded me of cherry pies for some reason!

Meg April 20, 2009 at 21:15

Aw!! They’re all so pretty, but I really like the way the third swirly one looks.

Homely girl April 20, 2009 at 21:33

I would totally go with the buttons with the red center – makes the shoe more interesting somehow (even though it is gorgeous as is). My second choice would be the 3rd button with the flower/swirl.

whimsykid April 20, 2009 at 22:49

I really, really love the red. Yes, it’s a less practical option, but the buttons are too adorable to pass up on.

Loren C April 20, 2009 at 23:46

this is great! I love your blog, it is beautiful.

Piia April 21, 2009 at 01:26

Top right ones deinitely.

therenegadebean April 21, 2009 at 01:31

I prefer the ones with the red center, too! I think the complement the shoe’s color very well and they also stand out against the beige leather. They also give the shoes a more summery feel.

Fleur April 21, 2009 at 06:02

I love the red centred ones!

Lorraine April 21, 2009 at 06:42

The ones with the red!! However, maybe you could make them interchangeable, and change them depending on your wardrobe? Just wondering if there’s a way to velcro them on … have fun deciding.

ruth April 21, 2009 at 17:12

red centre without a doubt±

Blanche April 21, 2009 at 19:00

I would pick the ones in the upper right hand corner–cute-as-a-button but understated so that they don’t take away from the natural flair of the shoes themselves. As for the red–I love the buttons, I would worry that one day I’d want to wear the shoes with something that the red just wouldn’t go with…and then what?

Simply marvelous shoes!!
