beautiful day

04.11.09 {beautiful day}

Hello dear friends! I hope you had a wonderful weekend. We just relaxed, watched some movies we picked up at the library, we hung out with our own Easter Bunny, I knit, and Sailor Husband cooked up the most delicious pork ribs on the grill! I do have to admit that it didn’t feel quite like Easter yesterday–the weather was far too warm (I’m used to it being quite cool over this holiday). But the warmth afforded me some time to sit on the patio and knit something I’ve been meaning to do for a long time!

I recently started working on a backlog of YouTube video requests, including one on how I do my eyeliner. My video is below, but I’ve also linked to several other videos that are super helpful! I’ve picked up a couple new tips from just watching them! I daresay that eyeliner is my favorite cosmetics (besides mascara and lipgloss) because it really transforms a look with just a swipe of color!

So, I’m terribly curious: if you wear eyeliner (even just occasionally), what is your favorite brand and why? Mine is definitely the Mary Kay liquid liner (although I used a gel liner from Coastal Scents in the video). That one has always served me well through the heat of summer!

I’ll have to try gel liner some time! It looks very similar to liquid liner. I normally use liquid liner with a brush tip (I think I’ve got Revlon right now, but in the past I’ve even found stuff from the dollar store to work fine). Pencil liner scares me to death. I’ll have to try some of your tips for applying eyeliner (I usually rush it and my eyes aren’t quite symmetrical.. haha).

I love love love Benefit’s Babe Cake eyeliner. It’s a cake liner and you add water to get the consistency you want.

Thanks so much for the tutorial! I never wear makeup, really, other than mascara and lip gloss. However, I’m looking for something different, pretty, and retro to match my dress for my wedding. If you have any other tips or tutorials to check out, or even places to get inspiration, I’d be so appreciative!

i use Isadoras liquid. i tried one from max factor recently but the stupid thing was almost dried out and it was the first time i opened it and used it so no now, only Isadora for me, it stays put no matter what and it’s easy too wash off.

The knit snood is such an awesome idea! Please post some pictures when you are finished. This is something I’ve always wanted to try. Maybe by the time I finish it, my hair will be long enough to go into it ^_^.

Thanks again for your blog – I love it.

Thank you so much for this tutorial! A friend just recommended Cover Girl’s Line Exact because I try to do a vintage look for my shows (I’m a singer) and I had no idea how to use it. This is perfect!

Love the tutorial Casey! I usually use pencil eyeliner, I’m not quite sure why really. But it works so that’s fine with me. I’ll definitely have to give liquid a go at some point though!

I wear liner everyday! I’ve gone through a lot of them, but I finally started using MAC’s liquidlast. I had been using the fluidline, but I found that it smudged fairly easily (I’m hard on my face, haha, or something! I’ve always had a very hard time with makeup for my eyes, it never stays put! Liquid last is awesome–I can dunk my head underwater and it doesn’t budge! It survives a multitude of tears, everything. I love it. I use vaseline/a&d ointment to remove it, and it works great. I also use a brush to apply–it does come with a brush, but I’m not a fan. I tend to favor MAC’s 266 angled brush instead :)

My favorite one is Revlon Colostay liquid eyeliner in black. Because it was a hard tip and makes it easy to apply, and it doesnt smear at all.

Some really useful tips! I’ll try using a compact mirror next time. I use Bare Escentuals eye liners (I live in the UK so and purchase from QVC). They’re in a mineral powder form and you mix it into a paste with a small amount of water and apply with a brush. It’s very economical – the pot lasts months, if not years and it’s hygenic as the brush can be washed after each application. It’s just not so good for travelling..
I love your blog by the way – I’m one of these people who reads but doesn’t comment :P

I use the cheap stuff – waterproof Wet ‘N Wild liquid eyeliner. The eyeliner itself is great, stays on just as long as it needs to and comes off with a makeup remover… the brush, however, is another beast. I’ve gotten used to it, but I would recommend buying a nicer brush for day to day use. I’ve been really curious about the more expensive gel eyeliners but can’t justify spending more than $5 on makeup… eyeliner is the only makeup I wear and I do it in this style.

    Casey, hello!

I would love it if you’d do a tutorial on how to do that old Hollywood hairdo that you are sporting on many of your pictures.

I love your blog! It makes my day every time.

Thank you for your fun ideas and enthusiasm.

    Best,

    Mrs. Patterson

My favorite is by MAC, the fluid line eyeliner. It’s easy to control and stays on all day. As a burlesque gal I need my eyeliner to stay put!

I have been enjoying reading your postings as of late, Casey! Just catching up on a lot of blog-reading and yours are so inspirational. Thanks for demystifying the cat eye for me. Although i don think I’ll ever do it (mostly go makeup free and natty) I appreciate how it looks! And on you it looks super!

You are too cute! I just came across your blog for the first time and it’s lovely.

I use a powder eyeliner from Aloette with a drop of liquid mixed in and apply it with a brush. I do a little more of a fat line at the edge of my eye and then a flick and – I was most recently inspired by Mrs Robinson in The Graduate!

My favorite pencil liner is Estee lauder. Yes…expensive (Get a free sample when you can, like I do ^_^), but it blends so well and when sharpened right you can do very nice percision looks much better than lquid or gel liner. So well in fact, that the only time I use liquid or gel is when I choose the difference in looks. Liquid being more defined and sharper, while the pencil is smoother, softer and ’smoky’. (Estee Lauder also has the best mascara hands down. Again free samples)

The best felt tip eye liner is Loreal telescope or telescopic. Either in original or carbon black. Works like a dream.

If you want a funky color other than black or brown, Wet ‘n’ Wild has really great liquid eyeliner in great colors. I suggest using the H2O proof one as it doesn’t run as easily.
