Feeling inspired by the 1940s nautical and midriff-baring looks! This is about as daring as I get in my day-to-day wardrobe. lol! Friday it was warm, but not so much that I couldn’t wear my 40s slacks I made late last autumn. I seriously love these–and really need to make them in a more “Florida friendly” fabric (something other than heavy denim…)! I really think a different top would have been better (something more opaque; I had to wear a tank top underneath this), but this worked in a pinch.
- Blouse: vintage 1940s/50s (it has the sweetest pink embroidery!)
- Slacks: 40s style denim; sewn from a vintage pattern by me
- Hat: authentic Navy cap; swiped from my Sailor Husband
- Shoes: Chinese Laundry; Ebay
- Pin: vintage drum majorette badge
- Bracelet: heart charm bracelet, Dillards
( Fish-face! I know, I am the biggest goof ever… )
Braids have been my mainstay the last couple of days! I don’t know why, but the warmer weather is just screaming for getting my hair up off my neck, and these seem to be the perfect solution. hehe!
I also wanted to let everyone know that I am slowly catching up on comments. My apologies for the tardiness in replying!

this would be a perfect look for the coney island mermaid parade! I actually did my hair similar last year for the event (but I couldn’t get my poof as high as yours!)
Have you attended? You would absolutely love it!!!
Adorable! You know how I love the sailor look! ;o)
What fun photos! You look so darling! I love the outfit, your makeup and the braids!
I just came across your blog a few days ago, and I must say, it’s fantastic! Great hair too!
You’re so cute!
I love this outfit! I’m really inspired by 40s summer wear at the moment, although I tend to stick with gypsy blouses myself, not having a midriff that anyone would want to see
But I also love how, even when midriffs were shown, it was very demurely and, thank goodness, no belly buttons.
Oh my gosh, you are adorable. Those photos are fantastic…especially the last one!
This is such a great outfit! And the braids really suit you, your hair always looks so cute
Fabulous! Love the fish face! The braid look is really neat. Works quite well with the sailor outfit.
The midriff shirt is so cute! I love the forties version of midriff bearing. Modest, but still smart and stylish!
Haha! I’ve been wearing my hair exactly the same way now that it is warm. However, my longterm solution will be a haircut this weekend
Love, love, love the outfit!
You are too cute!
I also wrap the braids around each other and tuck the ends in with bobby pins for an updo.
I’ve been wearing my hair like that nearly every day, too
You are so much fun! I’d love to meet you in person someday.
I’m still super jealous that you can make such amazing things from vintage patterns!
And that little blouse is just perfect, too!!!
I just love nautical
lovely! adore the braids

You look really pretty Casey. I love your outfit.
You look more more more than adorable! The braids are a summer standby here too! Just can’t take the heat in anything else!
Since the pigtails on my last post are really too young for 20, braids are my friends lately too. But I MUST try a poof like yours!
The authentic Navy cap is perfection.
I think you m ight be the only person who could pull this look off and not look twee! Braids look super cute on you
So Cute! You look like you just stepped straight out of a 1940′s musical:)
Lol…You are just too adorable! Can’t help but think of South Pacific while you goof around in your pictures…lol…Gonna wash that man right outta my hair!
Love the fish-face sweety!
What a great outfit and I enjoy your goofiness!
