I had to share this little variation on the more elaborate style I did last week! My hair was not cooperating this morning, so this was the easiest way to deal with it. The front roll was just pinned to the side, and the sides were smoothed back and pinned in place. The bottom is just left curly. It’s also slightly late 40s, which fits well from this dress I made last year.
Finally, another silly-Casey pose. Wearing my favorite apron I made as a teenager from a mid 1930s pattern!

I’ve been sewing again. I’m in desperate need of some new basics, and well… garments in general to liven up my whittled-down wardrobe! Preferably projects that utilize patterns and materials that I already have (thus to stem my inability to say no to vintage patterns in shops and online). This sweet little number I whipped up in a few hours from a late 1930s DuBarry pattern I purchased years ago (I think it’s one of my first vintage patterns, in fact!). The fabric is a really beautiful remnant of cotton I found at the DC Big Flea last summer, and had just enough to squeeze this out of it.
I made a few modifications, namely the sleeves. I’m not too fond of the puffed sleeve style illustrated on the envelope; gathering at the bottom edge always makes me feel uncomfortable and too “little girlish”. I actually swapped those out for a modified version of the bolero sleeves! The neckline was another little alteration on my part, simply because high, round necks look silly on me. lol!
Now I just need to make some new skirts so I have something to wear this with… (And finish the side closure too!)

A week from today is my birthday; I’ll be turning 24 this year! I still get a bit of an excited feeling about my birthday, even if I have nothing terribly party-ish planned (save making myself a batch of cupcakes! A girl always needs cake on her birthday…) Since sadly I can’t have you all over for a party (much fun as that would be!) with proper birthday cakes, decorations and favors, I thought it would be fun to celebrate and spread the joy with a few giveaways leading up to my birthday! Kind of a “reverse birthday gift” in a way. They’ll be a total of three throughout the week, so keep your eyes open for them!
Giveaway #1: Balloons Over Paris Earrings
My favorite pair of earrings feature an Eiffel Tower charm; I constantly get compliments when I wear them! I found these similar charms and made a pair of earrings featuring vintage findings and beads. I think they’d look super-sweet with a pretty spring dress, or even just adding a bit of flair to a t-shirt and slacks look!
