Okay, so quoting part of The Night Before Christmas might be a little odd, considering it’s the wrong time of year! But today feels like Christmas to me (hence, this has been going through my head all day!). My mom is flying down to spend the week with us and I’m super excited! I haven’t seen my family since Sailor Husband and I bid them adieu two days after the wedding when we hit the road for Florida. Mom and I are more than just mother and daughter; she’s my best girl friend, thrifting buddy, sewing partner in crime, and lover of quiet afternoon teas. So I’m really looking forward to spending some time doing our favorite activities, catching up on all the Virginia “gossip”, and just hanging out!

03.11.09 {blue tea dress}

As you can see, despite my excitement, I did cram a photo session in today! I love how this dress turned out, though I must admit that I don’t think the style is the most flattering to my bustline. It does nothing to enhance my already small cleavage, but I’m not going to dwell on that. lol! Isn’t it cute though?! I really feel like a princess wearing this–or Alice in Wonderland (my husband’s opinion!). I have uploaded a bunch more photos to my Flickr if you’re interested, and of course the earlier detail photos I posted can be found here I’m dying to wear it when Mom and I go to afternoon tea this week!

Must be off–I have to do a couple things before Mom gets here! I’m rather nervous: this is the first time she’ll see our little home… lol!

The dress is GOOOOORGEOUS! And you look gorgeous in it, of course.

Have a lovely time with your mom, lady.

Amanda Nicole March 11, 2009 at 15:30

That dress is fantastic, and you look so lovely in it! Bravo!

Miriam March 11, 2009 at 15:45

You look so lovely!
You will shine this summer, that’s one thing for sure;)
I’m also just making summerclothes right now; it’s the only thing that keeps me happy in these extremely snowy and dull days…

NoirGirl March 11, 2009 at 15:47

It’s so lovely! I’m quite intrigued at the success of the gathered waistline. I recoil in horror from gathered waistlines for fear of looking artificially fat. You really made it work though. I think the secret may be that the gathers are only at the sides.

I know just what you mean about the cleavage. I’m in the same boat. I’ve just decided to accept it, as I refuse to represent myself as something I’m not, if you know what I mean. :)

Love the typewriter! Do you actually use yours? I’m considering buying some new ribbons for mine so I could use it for special projects.

Kelly March 11, 2009 at 16:08

The dress is gorgeous, but your hair is what *makes* the outfit. Care to divulge how you set it? Wishing you a loverly tea with your mum!

Diana March 11, 2009 at 16:57

I love the dress but I can’t stop staring at the beautiful typewriter

Leah March 11, 2009 at 17:00

Lise March 11, 2009 at 18:36

I love your dress and that colour really suits you!

I wonder, would you perhaps be interested in writing a “how-to-sew-a-dress”- serie for us sewing dummies on your blog? I so want to be able to sew my own dresses, but I don’t know how!

Have a nice time with your mother:)

elizabeth of course March 11, 2009 at 18:57

It’s great! The color is really fantastic. I’ve been drawn to light blue lately, not really a color I usually wear. But you sure look stunning!

Andrea March 12, 2009 at 15:03

You look beautiful! :)

Jassy March 12, 2009 at 19:53

I think your perfect just the way you are and that dress is amazing. I still want one. My cups rather overflow so that dress probably wouldn’t even fit on top. You’re lucky!

Aya March 13, 2009 at 03:34

Wow!! Such talent! Absolutely beautiful work! Just wonderful, Casey!

Mademoiselle M. March 13, 2009 at 04:51

do you know about the vintage sewing pattern wiki? http://vintagepatterns.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page

i saw it on erin’s dress a day blog awhile ago. i’ve just started to catalog my patterns in my flickr account (w/companies and pattern numbers!) though i’m not quite ready to add to the wiki (b/c of time).
