I have been quiet on the blog-front this week because I’ve been furiously (and very happily) sewing up my sundress! Three chilly afternoons and several 1940s musicals later, I’ve finished the dress excepting the side zipper–which I forgot to pick up last time I was at JoAnn’s. I did try it on yesterday, and have officially decided this is my “Grace Kelly Dress”! Though I look nothing like her, it’s just a dress that screams Grace Kelly. And the style calls for a delightfully poufy petticoat; so I’m pairing my favorite pink one with it. If I could only find the perfect pair of springtime pumps to pair with it…

Now I just need to get a zipper, so I can stop staring at it pinned to my dress form, and actually wear it!

I really envy your ability to sew. This looks great!
I love it!! And it really does say Grace Kelly. When you mentioned that I immediately thought of that blue chiffon dress she wears in To Catch a Thief. Lovely!
It looks amazing! Can’t wait to see it on.
That is going to look stunning! I can’t wait to see it all together.
How pretty! I can’t wait to see a fashion show!

I die, I swoon, I want one! Lol!
Definitely Grace Kelley.
It calls out for a choker of pearls. I like your version much better than the pattern picture. Yours is more feminine. Can’t wait to get to see you wear it!
Goodness, it’s breathtaking! I want to try sewing so much, but am afraid of failing! I’m pretty sure that would be completely acceptable for a beginner, however, I think I’d be devastated!
But wow, it’s beautiful =).
Looks so fabulous!!! I heart your eyelet. The gal in the pattern looks very Elizabeth Taylorish.
It’s so cute! I love having amazing things on my dressform, sometimes it’s better than actually wearing it.
Very cute! The fabric looks absolutely lovely, I’m sure you’ll look fantastic in it!
Beautiful! Congratulations!
it’s gorgeous!! i love it, you did a great job. can’t wait to see it on!
i feel like i’ve haven’t sewn anything in ages and i’m feeling inspired to get that going again.
Oh my goodness, is that ever lovely! The colour is so pretty and soothing and the lace (?) is just perfect!
so lovely! great fabric choice. i’ve just started sewing from vintage patterns but i have a long way to go to get to your skill level. thanks for the inspiration!
LOVE this! look forward to a pic of you wearing it. seeing items made from vintage patterns always blows me away. i’ve made a 70s hoodie
with plans for more.
your blog is the sweetest as ever
i’ve added you on Twitter.
*oo* cuuuuute dress!!! it smells like sweet summer~
I love the laces so much!!! congratulations!
i have a similar pattern lying around at home – the problem is, it is an advance unprinted pattern, and i don’t know if the 5/8inch seam allowance is included or not.. do you have any experience with advance patterns?
this dress really turned out terrific, it’s adorable and just your style!
Aw, that’s gorgeous, I can’t wait to see it on you, because I’m sure that the blue will look great with your colouring…
And Grace Kelly’s style was awesome. We watched Rear Window at school and I watched in amazement when she climbed up a fire escape and jumped onto a balcony in her huge poufy skirt and pumps!
Your blog is soo cute! I love the layout. I admire your sewing abilities! I am slowly learning how to sew….very very slowly
