The Renaissance Festival didn’t happen this weekend after all because we had a family emergency come up. My husband’s grandfather passed away late last week, and we’ll be away to be with his family and attend the funeral. I’ll be unable to blog this week, but hopefully I’ll have an opportunity to check my email a couple times (so if you’re waiting to hear back from me, I’ll try and get back to you!).
Anyway, I would like to ask for prayers/good thoughts for safe travel, if you don’t mind. Have a lovely week, dear friends and I shall be back soon!

This has been a whirlwind week, with an even more full weekend ahead! I’m very excited–one of our plans is to visit the Renaissance Festival! I just need to pull out my fairy costume to wear (thankfully I had the foresight to pack that… lol).
My apologies for the lack of vintage inspiration in this post; I need to scan some images this week. Hope you all have a lovely weekend!

Thank you all for your sweet comments on the pink lipstick experiment! Yesterday evening I had it on when Sailor Husband came home, and then switched to my usual red to go to a baseball game (we were given tickets to a spring training game). As we were leaving, he remarked that he thought I looked quite pretty with the pink! lol! So… I suppose the silliness was all mine with nervousness over pink lipstick.
Anyway, onto the post I had planned for today! I always love taking something that I have and repurposing it without destroying the piece in the process. It’s always so fun–and a challenge–to come up with new ways to wear things I already own. I posted a picture awhile back wearing a long pearl necklace I had tied around my neck like a scarf, and got a couple questions on how I did it. Yes, it’s insanely easy, but there is a little trick to get it to stay, so read on…

01. You need a long bead necklace (any beads would do; I’m just using this pearl necklace that I have). These super-long necklaces were popular a couple years ago, so you probably have at least a couple!
02. Place it behind your neck.
03. Cross the ends over, positioning the intersection where you want the “knot” to be (center neck, side).

04. Loop one end over the other, being sure to pull it snugly to your neck at the height you wish the necklace to lie at.
05. Now here’s the trick to having it stay put: gently “mesh” several of the beads down between each other, wedging them down into the central string. My necklace is loosely strung, but if your’s is densely beaded, be careful not to put too much pressure on the string!
06. Arrange the ends and you’re done! I also will occasionally add an old brooch or something to the “knot” at the center. Just adds a bit more flair to the look.
I am quite smitten with using a necklace to create a scarf/choker. I think it might look even more lovely with a necklace made up of fine chain and beads!

You would think that a gal who has a penchant for brightly colored clothes, 4″+ heels and wears red lipstick on a daily basis wouldn’t have a lip color she was scared of, right? Well, a couple weeks ago I stopped in at the M.A.C. store looking for some pink lipstick: something spring/summerish, pretty and definitely a bit of a take-off from my normal retro red lip color. Pink for me is one of those “iffy” colors: I tend to be on the fence about wearing bright pink on my lips. My nails and eyelids are one thing, but for some reason I think it always looks goofy on me in lip color form! I did end up buying some lipstick in “Chatterbox” and a cremestick liner in “Cranapple” (I love the liner; it’s great under gloss!). But the lipstick sat in the bag for nearly two weeks before I had the guts to pull it out and try it myself.
It’s taking me a little while to get used to: I’m not used to something bright pink on my lips! (I know: it really isn’t logical! lol) But am rather drawn to the look: it reminds me of those brightly patterned Lilly Pulitzer dresses I’ve seen in shops. Or old ladies with their neon lip colors. Or perhaps it just tickles my own eccentric whims!
So tell me: is there a makeup color that you’re rather terrified of using? Or am I just the only silly one… lol!

Sailor Husband and I went to the mall over the weekend, and I decided to quickly stop in Forever 21 for a peek at the sunglasses. I usually don’t go in, but I was looking for a pair of new aviators (incredibly hard to find a pair that isn’t too square-ish). Besides those, I also found an amazing pair of sunnies that are a pretty good facsimile of 1940s sunglasses (at least in my opinion!). They were less than $6–far less than the real thing sells for! I snatched those up and have been happily sporting them since. They had a Heritage 1981 tag, although I can’t find them anywhere on the website. But if these are up your alley, I’d suggest swinging by your local Forever 21 to see if you can find them!
