my new haircut!

Saturday dawned and I had gotten really nervous about having my hair “chopped off”. I always do this, so it wasn’t the least bit surprising! But thankfully it went well, my stylist was fantastic and did an amazing job (she had no problems following the cutting diagrams I brought from 1940s Hairstyles), and the resulting cut is perfect for both modern and vintage styles.

It’s shorter than I’ve had my hair in years, but I’m really enjoying the length and lack of weight! lol. I set it in hot rollers yesterday morning, and the curl held up well throughout the day (even after driving around with the car windows down!). I’m eager to try a few pincurl sets (Aya has a wonderful video tutorial on pincurls) and keep playing with it. Certainly there are a few styles I have been doing lately that the shorter length does not allow for, but that isn’t a huge problem. I’m gonna have fun with my “short” hair!

I’ve uploaded a video on YouTube with some shots of me before I went to the salon. Enjoy! (Be sure to subscribe to my YouTube channel for upcoming videos!)

Have a lovely Monday, friends!

Whaou! You’re wonderful!

LilRoja February 23, 2009 at 10:37

Looks lovely! Can you show us the back?

Christine H. February 23, 2009 at 10:59

I love it! You make me want to break out my hot rollers and try something new with my hair. Now, if I can only remember where I put those roller pins…

Meg February 23, 2009 at 11:05

Your hair looks amazing! It definitely suits you.

Jenny-Rose February 23, 2009 at 11:21

Fabulous! You looked smashing even before you styled it. I can’t wait to see you play with it more. :>

Kate February 23, 2009 at 11:26

Oh, it’s simply amazing! You’re definitely brave to get it cut, I haven’t brought myself to bring mine that short. So hair rolls it must be, when I do 40′s styles. :-) SO CUTE, though!

Lise February 23, 2009 at 11:30

It was wonderful on you!

sarai February 23, 2009 at 12:03

Casey, you look gorgeous! I should play with my hot rollers a bit. Your natural hair color really is perfect for you too.

Sal February 23, 2009 at 12:19

Well, I can’t weigh in on authenticity, but lady, I think the cut is breathtakingly GORGEOUS on you. Seriously. I gasped when I saw those images and giggled my way through your adorable video!

Lauren February 23, 2009 at 12:31

WOW! You look so much like Rita in the first shot! Lovely new hairstyle!

Vintage Girl February 23, 2009 at 12:33

Wow! You look stunning! Could you show those cutting diagrams? I think I need a new haircut :)

Quincy February 23, 2009 at 13:26

Oh, your hair looks wonderful! And yes, if I move down south we have to have a get together! Jonny and I are thinking of Nashville, but I have family in Pensacola so we’ll definitely be visiting Florida! Being a Maryland girl this Maine weather is just too much for me to handle. :o )

Jennifer February 23, 2009 at 13:30

Your new haircut is so cute, especially as you curled your hair. :D

NoirGirl February 23, 2009 at 13:57

Oh, it’s Rita all over again! I think it’s gorgeous. Good for you! The first photo is really nice. I’ll be sure to check out the video – no time right now. :(

Kitten February 23, 2009 at 13:59

Wow, the result looks soo good, really like the curl at the front/bangs, very movie star glamour. Also your hair looked rather nice even with just it’s natural waves. Still, can’t wait to see how it turns out when you try pincurls etc. Have fun experimenting!

anja louise February 23, 2009 at 14:10

The new cut looks great! You always look so cute and glam at the same time.

Darlene February 23, 2009 at 14:25

You look smashing! Maybe you could post the cutting directions so we could *all* have them to bring to our stylist? Great red lipstick too!

SwingDoll February 23, 2009 at 14:33

Oh! You look lovely!
You’re hair type looks just about the same as mine also. *sigh* I don’t know how to get my hair cut :(

Solanah February 23, 2009 at 15:15

LOVE the cut and style, perfect with the hot rollers.

Tanya February 23, 2009 at 15:17

Stunning! The haircut really suits you and the style is gorgeous!

marjorie February 23, 2009 at 15:32

SO cute Casey and just perfect for you!! :) And may I just say how poised and lovely your videos always are! :)

Happy Monday to You!

Amy February 23, 2009 at 15:41

Wow, Casey!! You look sooo glam with your new haircut. I’d love to try something similar, but when I’ve trimmed my curly hair to that length in the past, I ended up looking less like Rita and more like a ten-year old! Maybe the difference is in the specific cut. Which style out of the book did you go with?

Helen February 23, 2009 at 16:05

Oh wonderful! I wish my hair could curl like that, it’s too straight and just falls out straight away. Lovely, lovely haircut!

Marmielu February 23, 2009 at 16:28

I’m loving the B&W pic!

Marie February 23, 2009 at 16:55

Awww, you look lovely! I was worried when I read the blog title that you had cropped it all off boyish style. But then I saw the pics and you look great. All curly and girly :D

Miriam February 23, 2009 at 17:11

Ohh you blog is so lovely! I’m completely swept of my feet. I can’t understand why I haven’t visited it before!
I will definately write a post about you on my blog tomorrow, as my new favourite.
Hope you are all well,
Miriam

thevintageyear February 23, 2009 at 20:05

Oh hell-O! I’m glad you are back, I kept on checking your blog to see if you were back… and with a new haircut and layout too! I love both the haircut and the layout. I’ve been gearing up to chop off some of my hair too (it’s been weighing me down lately) so I’m definitely inspired!

Amanda Nicole February 23, 2009 at 21:28

Holy mama, you look hot! That cut’s adorable.

Oxanna February 24, 2009 at 00:57

You look adorable with that haircut! Very, very ’40s, but still wonderfully modern.

Couture Allure February 24, 2009 at 10:50

Wow! You look great! Your stylist did a fantastic job!

Blaze February 24, 2009 at 13:02

Super cute Casey!!

I love the big curls, and bouncy vintage style! I hope you have lots of fun learning how to style it.

Sara February 24, 2009 at 13:03

Oh, that is gorgeous!! You’re making me want to cut my hair. I think it’d really go for a similar cut – or shucks, what about an auburn version of Marylin Monroe?

Theresa February 24, 2009 at 14:10

You look great! This style really suits you! I cannot wait to see what ideas you will have with new hairstyles!!!

Nichola February 25, 2009 at 08:25

You are so so lovely I adore your blog!

super kawaii mama February 27, 2009 at 01:29

Could that hair BE any more fabulous? Good call on taking the diagrams. I have a really hard time getting my hairdresser to understand my references even when i do bring pictures. A complete success here I say!
