knitting finals

Look what I finally finished! Remember this sweater I started on back in August using a vintage knitting booklet from Iva Rose? It took a tad bit longer than I anticipated to block and sew it together (I finished knitting the sleeves in December), but I finally got over my fear/procrastination of finishing it. lol. I’m quite thrilled with how it turned out–especially considering it was my first sweater to be completed. Hurrah for accomplishing goals!

So what to knit next?? I have several patterns that people have sent me, of course the Iva Rose reprint has several other fetching styles, and I’ve got a little stash of vintage patterns… Choices! I think the biggest conundrum is not what to knit, but the yarn to make it up in. I have really only worn my favorite cashmere cardigan a few times since we moved to Florida, so wool is really impractical here. And yet silk is rather pricey. Decisions!

Try a cotton yarn! The fabric knits up with a beautiful drape and it’s cool and comfortable in hot weather. It is also a lot cheaper than silk or cashmere, and comes in gorgeous colors.

Oooh, it looks fantastic! Well knitted, lady.

This is absolutely adorable! I am so not crafty that way.

it’s gorgeous! you may have inspired me to work on some vintage sweaters i started last year. :)

what about a cotton blend? one that does not get stretched out of shape horribly; i knit a vintage sweater in knit picks shine then i washed it – huge mistake!!! it’s huge on me now. :(

Casey it is beautiful! And looks so pretty on…bright pink is def your color!
I was scrolling through your wedding photos, what an amazing day it must of been! If I had to do it over again i would go retro (instead of fairy-ish which I was heavily into at the time:)
Your photos and ideas should be in a magazine!

This is so cute! It almost looks like its 2 pieces!

Hi! What a fantastic sweater! You are so good at all types of handwork. I wish I knew how to sew dresses, knit sweaters and so on. Do you have the opportunity to send me or post the recipe?

And by the way, cotton yarn is not so warm as wool. I can understand that silk is too expensive, but I believe this yarn type is relatively cheap and comes in many colours.

That sweater is beautiful! You did a wonderful job! ;o)

NoirGirl February 4, 2009 at 19:48

Such a sweet sweater! I know you don’t need more pattern ideas, but have you seen the “new” knitting pattern book called A Stitch in Time by Jane Waller and Susan Crawford? It’s amazing.

I’ve crocheted a sweater from cotton yarn and it is cooler and lighter weight than wool. So, I vote for cotton too. :)

Granted, I’m not knitting expert, but congrats on a job well done! I like the shade of pink you chose — it really pairs well with the creme.

That is gorgeous! You talented thing you ;)

rachel February 4, 2009 at 21:09

Wow so impressed… all I can knit is a scarf. Following a knitting pattern looks complicated.

whimsykid February 4, 2009 at 22:12

Aww… I wish I could knit well… I just lose patience and all I can do are rectangles! Your sweater turned out lovely, that raspberry pink is one of my favourite colours!

Erin February 5, 2009 at 00:28

Casey, what a talent knittist you are. Wow. In other business: I read your wedding post, and I loved how the square back of your wedding dress was echoed in you new husband’s uniform. Was that an intentional design detail? I hope your memories of the event are more beautiful than your lush photos. Congratulations again! Fondly, evh

Ooh it’s beautiful! That pink color is just the most edible thing I’ve seen all day! Love the little puff sleeves as well, gorgeous job :D

Sasha la pin-up February 5, 2009 at 05:05

Really nice! I dream about knitting my own swearter for a long time and you give me courage :)

Frida February 5, 2009 at 09:44

What a great first sweater! I really like the two colors with the ribbing in the middle, never quite seen anything like that.

amy February 5, 2009 at 11:54

the sweater is so pretty! i want to make a sweater i am just a little bit scared :)

sulu-design February 5, 2009 at 12:17

It’s adorable. Simply adorable. I have no advice on the next project… I’m still in awe of this one!

Marmielu February 5, 2009 at 16:30

Oh wow!!!!! To see it finally finished, and so wonderful! It looks terrific on you, too! Yeah for finishing it!! My vote would be for a nice cotton yarn for the next project. I have been meaning to investigate the cottons as wool never really does for me.
Oh, I’m so excited for you here. I even called your sister in with my exclamations. She’s very impressed, too.
Toodles!

Amy February 5, 2009 at 16:31

Well done, Casey! I would also be one to vote for cotton yarn. There’s some wonderfully silky ones available, so you don’t have to feel like you’re knitting with steel wool. Knitpicks.com is a great source for quality, affordable yarn and they have several varieties and weights of cotton blends.

Marmielu February 5, 2009 at 16:32

BTW – that bookcase looks rather artfully put together behind you.

Gail February 5, 2009 at 18:47

I just LOVE this sweater – it is just beautiful. I can only aspire to some day make something that lovely! The colors are fantastic.

jassy February 6, 2009 at 02:31

That’s amazing! And I love the new layout. So fresh!

Mademoiselle M. February 7, 2009 at 06:26

That’s an amazing sweater you knitted, Casey! I love it! Even your knitted work looks custom fit for you. I’m so jealous!!!

Kendall February 20, 2009 at 14:48

I saw your vintage hair tutorials on Youtube, and now I find that you knit too! A girl after my own heart. Your blog is awesome ^_^
