how to cut & style your hair…

Thank you all so much for sharing in my excitement over the new hairstyle! It seems that many of you are curious about the cutting diagrams–having those helped quite a bit to communicate to my stylist exactly what I wanted. I also included some photos of Rita Hayworth, Dita von Teese, and a young Marilyn Monroe to give her an idea of how I wanted the final look (however, I didn’t have her set my hair). Even though 1940s Hairstyles is out of print (check your local public library!), I did find it online in .pdf form! I don’t know how “kosher” this is, but here is the link. For those interested, I had my hair cut to the length of the “Middy Plus”.

If you already have a layered cut, here are a few resources for setting your hair into 1940s styles! (Be sure to also check out the 1940s Hairstyles book; there are styling suggestions in that as well.)

I have also seen some new 40s hairstyle books on Amazon, which I’m curious to see. Perhaps I’ll splurge a little later this year?

I’m almost positive you’ve linked to the 1940′s Hairstyles pdf before, so don’t feel too bad about not being “kosher” :) Also, your hair is really stylin! Inspired me to get up half an hour earlier this morning and curl my own! :)

Your blog is such an inspiration. After seeing your new haircut yesterday, I wasted all morning looking for info on how to get mine cut, too. I should have been patient. Thank you for the most excellent links. Fantastic!

Definitely an inspiration! Wow, I just can’t get over my love for the “pageboy” hairstyle, the one pictured above is simply gorgeous!

Wow I love your new hairstyle! I totally want to curl my hair into a Veronica Lake kind of look (that long curly/wavy hairdo), but my thick hair is impossible to style. Even hairspray doesn’t hold it together. *sigh* Maybe a haircut will lighten the load and I’ll be able to style it with ease…

Thanks so much for the link. I’ve wanted that 1940′s Hairstyles book for so long, but every time I see it for sale online somewhere, the price is outrageous – $200 or more! :( It needs to go back into print.

Do you have any tips for getting that 40′s movie star shine on hair? Or is that just an unattainable Hollywood fabrication?

I have mine cut in the Middy. I went to my hairstylist with the same print out from the book and she did a great job. Ever since then it’s been so much easier to curl and style. :) Your new hair looks gorgeous!

Thanks for sharing the link, in spite of its questionable kosherness. =]
