Thank you for your comments on my post about the wedding yesterday! We’re both so tickled with all the lovely words and well wishes!

It seems rather funny, being in a part of the world where the weather is relatively mild and sunny throughout the winter, that I would be craving springtime frocks and colors. But I am–and have been dreaming away lately of what I’d like to make or refashion for my spring wardrobe! These cute dresses from 1950 are inspiring me right now; I’m thinking fitted bodices, full skirts in crisp cottons are the way to go this year. I recently went through my pattern stash as well, and found a number of pretty little frocks that would perfectly fall into this style… Now I just have to go through and see what kind of fabric I have in the boxes!
One of the changes I’ve decided to make to this blog is combining the Vintage Monday and Inspiration Friday features into one. Enjoy!

I apologize beforehand for the length of this post… but breaking it up seemed rather awkward! There are lots of photos too, so be sure to click the “read more” link for the entire post!
Our wedding took place November 22, 2008, early afternoon amidst gorgeous late-November weather in a little town in western Northern Virginia. Aside from the cold (I just don’t do well with cold–which is why I’m so thankful I’ve moved south! lol), the wedding turned out far better than I had imagined! It was a blessing to be surrounded by our friends and family, to have a great photographer to document the event, and the generous girls and women from our church who volunteered their time and talents to help pull the day off!
If you remember my earlier posts about this, we had decided to go with a Japanese/retro theme. Something that we could do a lot of Asian elements in the decor, but also play some of our favorite old tunes, and still keep it simple and fun. The best part of the wedding? The fact that we not only made a lot of decorations and favors ourselves, but creatively sourced things and came way under budget. I don’t want to come off as bragging, but we did the wedding for $4,000 (thanks in large part to my mom who is very good at making a budget stretch!)! Which is amazing considering the average D.C. wedding is 8-10 times that figure. Plus, it turned out very us, which is what matters, right?
Here are a few highlights of the day:

Sighing a little today because no matter how many sit-ups, crunches or sessions on the Ab-Lounge I do, my waist will not be small enough to fit into any of these beauties! Though, this is why I am forever thankful that I can sew, so making something inspired by what I see, but can’t fit into, isn’t too much of a downer. hehe! (If you’re curious about learning to sew, I highly recommend Leah’s sewing series that she’s been writing!)*

* Note: Don’t worry, a wedding post is on it’s way! I am just having the darndest time trying to wrangle how I want to write about the event… there’s so much to tell!

Hello darlings! Firstly: thank you for all your sweet emails and comments over the past two months; they really brightened my days! (I still need to catch up on those, I know…) I’m afraid that my previously-planned absence of a month turned out to be quite longer. Oops! The short story is that my computer ended up being very messed up by whatever it “caught”, resulting in 1 1/2 months of trying to fix it. In the end I had to back up all the files that I could and have the entire harddrive wiped and rebuilt. So… needless to say I’m so excited to have my computer back and in working order. Now I’m just having to reinstall everything and reload my files on it!
Most of all, I’m thrilled to be back and blogging again! So many things have happened since the wedding, and I’ve got so much news! Most of all this forced break has given me some time to scheme over plans for this blog and the direction I want to take it in this year. (Yes, I’ve been doing too much planning!) Hopefully I can share those in the coming weeks with y’all…
While I have loads to write about (I know you’re probably curious about the wedding still! hehe!), today I’m going to leave you with a picture of the new addition to our small family:
We adopted Mr. Freckles a few weeks ago from one of the rescue societies. He’s taken some time to warm up to us, but we’re all finally comfortable with each other. He’s quite a character too–and very spoiled!
Have a fantastic Monday, friends!!!
