Remember I posted about this 1940s trouser pattern I purchased on Ebay? After a few muslin mock-ups, and not having the time to work on the fitting issues, they are finally finished! I’m rather smitten with how they turned out; they’re quite possibly the first pair of pants I feel comfortable in…
I did make a few design changes: most notably facing the waist, rather than creating a waistband. I had seen that on several pairs of pants recently and liked the look, and the denim I used for this pair was heavy and I wanted to cut down on the waistline bulk. I added the belt loops to help define the waist a bit.

The biggest challenge was definitely achieving the right fit, while retaining the lines of the original trousers. I found that the biggest point of adjustment was raising the crotch by about 2½”. There were also my usual waist fit issues: namely changing the back pleats to darts to keep the waist-to-hip line smooth. Finally, I moved the zipper to the center back simply because, well, I really don’t like how hip line zippers add extra bulk!
I think what I’m most excited about was that I’ve finally fitted a slacks pattern that works! ‘Cause although I prefer wearing skirts 90% of the time, occasionally (like when moving for instance! lol!) trousers are handy. Oftentimes, I really don’t like wearing them, because modern styles rarely flatter me, so having a pattern that fits and flatters is wonderful!

I’m dreaming up a million-and-one different outfits revolving around this pair of slacks: a take off on a famous poster, pin-up inspired sweater girl, or something sweet and classy. *sigh* I’m going to have fun…
p.s. You can see more of the individual photos of the trousers here.

Those pants are fantastic!!! Job well done! I never wear pants either unless their high waisted and wide legged! LoL

Gorgeous! Cheers to your amazing sewing skills!
Oh, FAB! When you posted about having finished making these I was hopeful we’d get pics of them soon! They are GREAT, you look lovely!
you look amazing! i love the pants, they turned out great!
i’m really intimidated by sewing pants. i would love a pair though since i’m not really supposed to be buying any NEW clothes hee hee.
Those look great! Congrats!
fun! they turned out really nice, casey!
Wow, they turned out great! Full, high-waisted trousers aren’t really my favourite style for me, but you pull them off really nicely. I’m making pants too, right now, and fitting them is really not fun…
That’s impressive sewing! I’ve often contemplated sewing something from a vintage pattern, but have never gone through with it.
Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! Trouser-style jeans really are the best, aren’t they? Which reminds me, I really should start getting to work on the pair I promised my sister . . . I love the way yours turned out – so perfectly vintage and very you.
(AND we get to see the back of the lacy-stripey T! It’s even cuter than the front!)
Hurrah! They turned out great, I really need to get started on my vintage pattern pants soon.
Oh, I think I might be in love with these.
WOW. Those are sheer perfection, lady. Well done! Well done, indeed!
Beautiful job! I must admit, that’s really the only style of trousers I ever wear…Lauren Bacall all the way
This is a great look, and even better because you made it yourself! Congrats on finishing them so perfectly.
These are so beautiful!! you did a great job! I wish I could sew as well as you!
Hooray! They look wonderful!. I understand the odd fit thing. I can never gat pants just right. For the past six months, I’ve adoptd skirts as the norm.
I am so impressed! Sewing pants seems so daunting as I currently have a stack of “not quite” right projects. You are quite talented did you take any sewing classes or were there any specific books that helped? Or just lots of practice and time?
oh i love them! i’m a bit envy right now
You look so fabulous! Love the top with those pants! :>
great job on the pants! they look awesome!
Cute as a Button, Casey!!
Your did a fabulous job!! I’m horrid at pants-sewing!! (It’s shameful)! I love them!
