10.06.08 {cherry red}

I have a definite “coat compulsion”, one that usually starts around this time of year when I spot too-cute-to-pass-up pieces at the thrift shops. Granted, I’ve found some real winners this way (like a 1960s, velveteen coat I got for $4 one year), but as of last year, I think I counted how many coats and jackets I had, and concluded that it had gotten a tiny bit out of control! But that hasn’t stopped me from drooling over some of these, especially now that the weather is cooling off:

Clockwise: The Great Cord Coat from Boden, Vintage Lilli Ann Coat on Ebay, Mod 60s Coat from What Would Marilyn Wear?, Strammur Jacket from Anthropologie, 50s Leopard Print Coat from Posh Girl Vintage.

This preoccupation with attractive toppers hasn’t been helped any by some of the lovely, vintage ads I’ve been scanning recently either! It’s my dream to find a gorgeous, 1940s swing coat (either hip or knee length) in a fun color (like pink, or turquoise blue, or even a light green…). But alas, the perfect coat has yet to cross my path…

I hope you are having a beautiful day, my dears!

    You and me both, honey! Every season when the coats start showing up, I start drooling over the new styles, completely oblivious to the hoards I’ve collected previous years! I figure if the impulse lasts more than one season, I should consider getting one, but otherwise refrain. Still looking for the perfect grey funnel-neck . . . Oh, and you’re right – that first add is so luscious, I was sold before even looking at the coat much!

    Oh, vintage coats are way superior! I have a bit of a coat problem myself, especially with autumn/spring coats – the season for those just isn’t that long round here, so one wouldn’t really need them in all thinkable colours :)

    PS: the one from anthropologie I’ve been drooling over for days now!

    I totally adore coats too, and if the weather here allows, i’d have the same compulsion as you. Unfortunately, from where i come from, it would be hilarious to be wearing coats. The closest we get to Fall and winter would be downpours! I’ve stopped myself many times from buying coats on impulse for keepsakes :) you girls are lucky!

    I know! Coats are so addictive! Particularly vintage ones. My favourites would be 50′s style ones that completely cover your dress. I always feel silly buying lots because something like a coat always seems like you should be able to wear it over and over- a staple item, not something you need to have a million of!

    those are so pretty! for myself, i got it into my head that i really want to have a cape this year. i do try to keep myself to one coat/jacket/winter-outerwear per year, and this year it is to be a cape. i had found a beautiful one on ebay and then totally forgot about it and now i’m a little angry with myself. but. there are more to come, i’m sure…
    have a great week!!
