:: calling cards ::

10.09.08 {calling cards}

I’ve needed new “business” cards for awhile (or as I prefer to term them: calling cards. I tend to use them more as something that holds my contact information, rather than publicizing a business per-se.). You’d think as someone who does graphic design and such, I’d have actually gotten around to doing some design work for myself. Well, the sad truth is no, because I’m an intensely fickle and picky person when it comes to designing a card for myself!

I’ve come up with a few designs, but am just having the darndest time choosing which one I think is more interesting, and suitable for my card. So, I’d love if you’d comment and let me know which one you think is the best design! I wanted to include an image of myself (but not of my face… I don’t want to come across as narcissistic. lol!), and give the card a vintage feel. (The one image on the bottom, left side will be the back of the card.) Which do you like best?

Thanks bunches!!!

Hello Casey! Longtime reader, first time poster. My favorits of all of these pretties are the heart-hands ones, particularly the one thats closer to the center. I just find it so charming!

Gracie October 9, 2008 at 20:16

Hello! I’m also a longtime reader and commented here and there =)

I love them all but I think my favourites are the shoe ones in the top right hand corner and the one in the top middle. They’re gorgeous!

It’s going to be a hard decision.

Aimee October 9, 2008 at 20:17

I’m going to vote for either the black and white heart hands (middleish) or the black and white dress (lower right). I like the strong border that was used on them and I prefer the images to be in black and white as well (even though I love the color of your shoes!). I know it isn’t an exact answer, but I’m excited to see what you pick and what everyone else votes for!

I like the vertical one where your toes are pointed inwards, but it’d be awesome if it was in black and white (I love b+w photos, so classy and timeless). Or maybe you could leave your shoes in color and have the rest be monochrome? And definitely the bold border!

I think the bottom right, or maybe the top middle…

Sarah October 9, 2008 at 22:16

Hi! I’m also a long time reader and admirer of you work, but this is my first time commenting. My favorite is the shoe picture in the middle of the top row. I like the horizontal pictures so you don’t have to turn the card to read the back, you can just flip it over. Although the black and white pictures are very cute too!

Tanya October 9, 2008 at 22:39

I love the one on the bottom right (black and white legs shot). They all look wonderful though!

Heather October 9, 2008 at 22:42

I really love both the heart/hand ones… and this a hard decision to make, but I think I like the top left one better. There’s something about the simplicity of it that is really drawing me in.

Em October 9, 2008 at 22:44

I adore the one in the middle, however they are all beautiful! I am loving your blog & your style!

Julianna October 9, 2008 at 23:31

I like the top middle one the best, I think the color and the fact that it takes up the whole card is really striking. My second choice would be the bottom right though.
:)

I really like the top middle and the bottom right design. The heart ones are sweet—but they remind me of a pose that the Princess characters in Disneyland would make for the camera.

Clare October 9, 2008 at 23:42

Ooo! This is a hard one – for what you are advertising I would go for either the heart one in the middle or the black and white shoes one to the right, bottom. Do let us know the verdict!

Good luck choosing!

Andrea October 10, 2008 at 00:21

I like the hands with the border :)

Mercurial Magpie October 10, 2008 at 02:19

Tough pick, but I have to say that the upper right hand corner one caught my eye first. :) But seriously, why not all of them?

Jennifer October 10, 2008 at 02:26

I’m with you on preferring to call business cards “calling cards.” At least in regards to my own cards, in any case, LOL. I really like the idea of having personal calling cards, and now that I have a “real” job, I would really like to design cards for my own distribution. :D

But anyway, I digress. In terms of which card design I like best, I’m partial to the designs with the skirt and shoes, particularly the one near the top with toes pointed inwards. They feel professional and clean and stylish, but still charming and whimsy.

Good luck with coming to a decision! I know how hard it is at times to just pick one design!

Frida October 10, 2008 at 03:12

I like the one with the shoes at the center top the best.

eithne October 10, 2008 at 03:23

I think the middle top one is lovely!

Lena October 10, 2008 at 04:34

the black and white one down to the right. it’s fantastic.

all this reminds me of that i feel like i’d need some “calling cards” (i do not even own a business..) as well. and a nice banner for my blog. i really should take some time during this fall and be a little creative on that corner…

ysolda October 10, 2008 at 04:52

No need to choose – my business cards have lots of different photos on one side and my details on the other. Moo do business cards with up to 50 different photos, they’re so much fun – people love choosing they’re card. It’s not the cheapest option but if you don’t need a huge volume it’s affordable.

lady coveted October 10, 2008 at 06:15

are you a graphic designer… i’m just sayin’

amelia October 10, 2008 at 07:20

The hearts hand pose is (-while cute and delightful) over done and not original.
Toes pointing in looks uncertain and weak. Toes in “first position” (ballet for ya ;) conveys much more strength and self assurance.
Colour photo is visually more eyecatching.
Portrait photo compliments the legs-shot.

so….. bottom right card but in colour. :-D

You’ve done very well! I find calling cards rather tricky sometimes..

elizabeth of course October 10, 2008 at 07:31

b/w hem and shoes. nicely off center. I’m afrais the hands might become passe’. They’re all lovely though!

Lynda October 10, 2008 at 09:44

I love the image on the upper right but would like to see it in b&w or sepia … my second choice would be the one with your hands shaping a heart (upper left).
xo,
Lynda

Morning! I voted at Flickr, but thought I’d come here. Top right for me!

Kat October 10, 2008 at 09:55

I like the one of your feeties, in the middle/on the top row. I think they are adorable just like you and your blog.
hugs,
Kat

anne October 10, 2008 at 09:57

I like the top center horizontal version! So cute! Love your blog!!

Darlene October 10, 2008 at 10:05

Casey, My vote is the bottom right, legs in black and white. I also agree that black and white gives a more vintage feel. There is something decadent about B&W today, mixed by new color.

Have a great weekend!

Anna-Kajsa October 10, 2008 at 12:49

The one down in the bottom right corner is my favourite: that position of the feet seems much more confident than the other.

Your blog is gorgeous, by the way!

Betty Lou October 10, 2008 at 13:17

i really like the heart-hands, love it!

kristen October 10, 2008 at 13:23

I like the one on the top in the middle… although i do love the heart hands as well :)

Sal October 10, 2008 at 14:47

They’re all lovely, but I’m partial to the horizontal, color, feet turned out.

Aya October 10, 2008 at 15:18

These are… are… simply BEAUTIFUL O_O I am so jealous of your skills… I try to design, but I simply do not compare… I am trying to make cards myself. I wonder how you do it, I wish I could watch how… lol ^.^;

Marmielu October 10, 2008 at 15:59

Well, dearie, I couldn’t resist adding my two cents here. I like the top center one the best. Very anthropoligie-like. Good luck!

Anna October 10, 2008 at 16:10

hard to choose! i think i like the one at the bottom right. :)

Sam October 10, 2008 at 20:01

my favorites are the shoe ones with your feet turned in.. the top right and top middle. but i can’t decide which of those i like better!
