:: a feather in my cap ::

Er… I mean hair! Succumbing to all the images I’ve been seeing lately of feather clips, feather-encrusted headbands, and generally the most charming and delightful feather head wear, I made myself a little clip the other evening.

The piece was super-easy to make (sorry, no step-by-step… I was on the phone with L. while I put this together, and juggling a cell phone, glue, feathers and a camera would have ended in disaster! lol.). The basics: I cut a wedge shape from felt, and used craft glue (Aileen’s Tacky glue is my favorite) to attach all the individual feathers to the felt starting at the top edge and working down. (Yes, I’m aware that you can buy pieces very similar to this already put together, but I didn’t want to spend the extra $4!) After that dried, I trimmed the ends of the feathers to be even with the felt edge. Then I glued the vintage button to cover the very point of the feathers and also glued a clip-barrette to the back (using a hot glue gun for both). Easy!

Today was more wedding related shopping; this time to Ikea. (Also known as The Store That Casey Gets Lost In…) I picked up a few items for the reception decorations and “tablecloths” (really sheets in disguise!). Now I just need to firm up the table centerpiece design. Although we’re not doing a sit down meal, I do want tables available for our guests who prefer to sit rather than stand around and talk. Hopefully it won’t backfire and the guests break up into little groups! Eeeep!

Wow, that’s so elegant, those are really nice feathers! I too have been very inspired by the onslaught of amazing feather accessories so many blogs have been sharing. I think I may have to succumb to a crafty session soon.
And IKEA sheets are amazing– they can be such good deals, and they’re pretty good quality. I’m currently making a blouse out of a turquoise one!

Oh thank God I’m not the only one that gets lost in that store! The last time, a friend and I got so amused at the rat in a maze feeling we had, we started giggling… and couldn’t stop. Lovely, lovely pin! I need to hunt around and look for a local sustainable source for feathers here, I really do.

You know, I was just thinking about how I needed a feather fascinator. Sort of modeled after Kenley from project runway, they are so cute and add elegance to any outfit. Well done and I am going to set out and make my own!!

Wonderful! Handmade is always so much better than pre-made. You can make exactly what you like, not settle for close enough.
