09.10.08 {1940s hair!}

At the risk of having yet another “show-off” post (eeek!), I finally got my hair to do a rather decent 1940s style! Not the somewhat 40s-esque look I do on a regular basis (see: hair tutorial), but a combination of styles I’ve seen in photos and movies from the era. It took me about 30 minutes and loads of hair spray, but I rather love it! Basically, I pinned the sides up as I normally do, curled the front (using Super Kawaii Mama’s tutorial as a starting point–I had to alter it a bit to make it work with my hair), and arranged the back. The latter is what I’m most proud of, since it really does look like a 40s roll. The short of it is that I gathered the hair like a ponytail, folded it in half up and under, folded that again, secured it with a hair elastic, and pinned everything in place. The flower just covered up the more obvious construction elements.

I wore it like this when I went to meet my sister at her campus for dinner; and believe me: I got more than a couple sidelong glances. I guess I did look a little dramatic compared to everyone else… lol!

Speaking of hair, I recorded a video tutorial of my (less theatrical!) hair how-to last week. I’ve been trying to jazz it up a bit since, so I think it’ll be ready by Friday. So keep you eyes peeled for that one…

Your hair-do is absolutely lovely, and that curl in front is perfect! Now I’m even more impatient for my hair to grow out so I can try this look! :)

So cute! It looks authentic & very modern at the same time. Reminds me that I should be trying some more vintagey things with my own hair. :)

Oh that is just perfect! I’ll bet all those extra glances justified the extra effort.

You KNOW everyone who gave you the eye was thinking, “WHO is that stunning vixen, and how can I get her number?”

You’re too cute! The vintage styles suit you so well, too. It’s hairstyles like these that make me wish I had the patience to style my hair. That’s one reason why I recently went got a layered, Zooey-Deschanel cut – you roll out of bed, and you’re hair’s perfect!

Hey there Casey! Your hair looks lovely. You look like you stepped out of another time, but that is even without the up-do.

Thank you for the link to order the cat umbrella. I am eagerly awaiting it’s arrival.

Wonderful vintage style – that flower clip is so lovely! I’m attempting to grow a cut out and the temptation to chop it off is awfully pressing, but seeing this style makes me want to hold off getting the scissors out :-)
