09.03.08 {making the grade}

When my sister and I were little, we used to say you had something “on the brain” when you were really obsessed with it. Like right now I have 1940s slacks on the brain! lol. Yesterday evening I broke out my drafting supplies and graded the Advance pattern down a couple sizes. I ended up taking off a bit more than I expected, but hopefully that shouldn’t effect anything too much. As I had never graded pants before, I referenced the handy guide that Threads has on the cut/fold lines for grading.

Now I just need to actually cut the fabric out! After my quick (or not so…) trip to JoAnn’s on Monday, I came home with a medium weight denim. Terribly practical, and just a little boring, yes. But for my first pair, that will most certainly have some fit issues (since most patterns do need tweaking!), this was the cheaper alternative to the more expensive twill in rust red that I was drooling over! lol.

09.03.08 {1940s factory wear}

I put together a little collage of 1940s slacks inspiration that I’ve been referencing a lot lately. I also was super-inspired by a movie I watched the other night on TCM. Millions Like Us was a WWII era British film that had some of the cutest factory-wear clothes I’ve ever seen in a movie. Seriously. Besides all the adorable hairstyles (that somehow looked so much more practical and achievable than hair in Hollywood-produced films of the same period) and frocks, that is! I managed to Google up some images, since the DVD is sadly quite hard to find…

I also wanted to let everyone know that I’ve fixed an ongoing, comment problem that several kind readers notified me of. It seems that a plugin I installed a few weeks ago fouled up the works, and several readers were unable to comment! So hopefully everything is ok now.

Have a lovely Wednesday!

That movie sounds just exactly like something I would love! Perhaps I’ll scrounge around and try to find a copy of it somewhere. WWII + Great Britain = a happy me! ;)

I would love to have my pants portion of my wardrobe be 50% 60s capris and 50% 40s wide waistband, cuffed wide trousers like these. I would be so happy. Even more so, if a few had button-on bibs to make them into overalls! Can’t wait to see yours!
