:: lady sings the blues ::

Billie Holiday is one of my favorite female singers; I love listening to her voice while I’m working or sewing (which may explain why sometimes it seems that every other song on my 40s playlist is her! lol). So I thought: why not do an outfit inspired by her iconic look? Who are some of your favorite singers (or actresses for that matter) from this era? What pieces would you pick to capture the essence of their style?

(On a completely random note: I’m now on Modepass… Feel free to friend me if you’d like! It’s like Facebook or Myspace, only for people interested in fashion (and so much nicer looking than those other social networking sites! lol)!)

Have a lovely Thursday–I’m off to do a little apartment-furnishing shopping today! Look for a post tomorrow about the wedding invitations; I can’t wait to share how they turned out!!

I would have to say my favorite is Billie Holiday too! I also love Patsy Cline…thats the 50′s I know! lol! I’m also quite a fan of Frank Sinatra. I have some old recordings of his from the 30′s and 40′s and they are fabulous! :o )

I was just thinking about this the other day! And although you can barely see her influence in my style, I think of Stevie Nicks as one of my first style icons. I’ve got the bangles and the flowy scarves and the boots … though not to the same extreme, of course!

I too am a fan of Billie, but I also have a fondness for Ella Fitzgerald & Bessie Smith. Bessie is quite raunchy for the time, but that’s why I love her.

I do have a bit more love for Ella than Billie, but Billie does have the advantage of such a distinctive style. I love this outfit you put together, it’s simply gorgeous.

music from the 30′s and 40′s is my favorite! Song Of India by Tommy Dorsey is the most perfect song to me in all of existence!!!
