I recently checked a book out of the library on stylish, Hollywood stars: The Power of Glamour by Annette Tapert. I admit it’s a bit of a “fluff read”, but it’s summertime after all! lol. What I love is all the gorgeous pictures, and the dissection of how these women created and refined their individual fashion styles over their careers and lifetimes. It’s definitely along the lines of fashion-geeky, but I’m absolutely fascinated!

Not to mention that the book reviews the fashion of some of the most sophisticated style-arbiters of Hollywood’s Golden Era: Joan Crawford, Kay Francis, Greta Garbo, Constance Bennett, Claudette Colbert… And I’ve “rediscovered” fashion icons like Constance Bennett, Delores del Rio and Marlene Dietrich. It’s like a mash-up of my favorite stars all in one book! Plus all the tidbits are absolutely glorious in giving insight to just how these women evolved into the iconic images they presented. For instance: did you know Joan Crawford emulated Gloria Swanson and Garbo before she developed the look that best suited her? I think it’s somewhat reassuring to know that even the women profiled didn’t “get it right” on the first try (just like the rest of us!).

So, in celebration of these truly glamorous women, here are a few “style inspiration” collages I put together! (Are you all getting bored of these yet? lol)

(two more here and here!!!)
I’ve been busy this week making some things, so I have loads to show you on Friday… let’s just say refashioning and revamping are apropos! I also wanted to say a big thank you to the lovely Rhiannon for the sweet words about my fashion ramblings on her blog. She is an absolute inspiration to me style-wise; I adore her vintage goodies and pretty outfits she puts together. Thank you!
Have a lovely (inspired!!) day, darlings!

I looooooooove Claudette Colbert. It Happened One Night is one of my all-time favorite films, and I love her style in that movie. It’s just incredible.
I am such a sucker for the TCM channel, I completely veg out on it whenever the chance comes by! That book looks wonderful…
i am such a big fan of both, you and rhiannon! your both are brilliant and so inspiring!!
Oooo! All of my favourites! This book looks amazing.
I’m fascinated by the idea of glamour, and working on ways to incorporate it into my everyday style. This book looks like a great source of inspiration!
Well, I just had to get this book after reading your review!
I own this book and love it! Such gorgeous photos and clothes. My favorite part of the stories is how the women and their designers used clothing construction and details to both highlight their strengths and hide their figure flaws, very interesting.
