:: for the love of frizzy hair ::

07.09.08 {style icons: silent film actresses}

So, I disappeared for a wee bit longer than I had intended–but that was because I was very busy on my “mini-vacation”! My sister and I went to visit my fiance for a long weekend, and had an absolutely lovely time. Now I’m back and trying to catch up on all the fantastic blogging that went on while I was gone, and your sweet comments!

Rhiannon’s recent post about how she loved silent film ladies with frizzy hair made me giggle–because that is why I started collecting pictures of silent film starlets years ago! There is something so feminine and lovely about a mass of curly, frizzy hair. Or maybe I just comfort myself with that thought of romantic tresses because my hair tends along those lines? lol. Anyhow, I think it is fun to be inspired by these gorgeous looks–especially now that the southern summer is in full force and my hair is responding to the humidity by curling and frizzing with a vengeance!

I managed to sew up quite a little storm right before I left for my trip last weekend, so I have lots to show you all! I finally finished those shorts I began awhile back, for starters… Stay tuned for that post!

And now I must run… my good friend Jenny Rose is coming to visit with her cache of Mary Kay cosmetics (she’s a MK consultant), and we’re planning on trying out some ideas for my wedding make up. Fun! Have a lovely, inspired Wednesday!

    Ah yes! Haha! I am one with “romantic tresses” as well. I do believe that I can partly emulate this look by continuously brushing! ;) Really though, these photos are just gorgeous. I recently saw a PBS special on Mary Pickford and her life as the “first actress.” It was so good!

    How FUNNY. I fight the frizz on a daily basis, longing for perfectly formed banana curls. But my husband LOVES it when my hair gets a little fuzzy and out of control. He thinks it’s soooo sexy. I see it in these photos, and on these lovely gals … now if I could just see it in myself. Thanks for the nudge toward embracing the frizz!

    I love their hair. I agree that there is something alluring about these style icons with their tousled, frizzy hair.

    Ahh! Hope for the frizzy (myself included!) ;) These always make me think of Helena Bonham Carter’s hair in A Room with a View! :) So lovely (and opposed to today’s super flat/straight styles).

    Aha…yay for Romantic Tresses! I’ve got loads of them, if that’s what you’d want to call them! ;)

    My hair is straight as a board and I’m always trying to find ways to give it that kind of wave. I tend to plait it overnight although it’s quite short at present (about shoulder-length) so it just goes POOF. But I love that. I swan around and pretend to be a Rossetti model or the heroine from an Edwardian girl’s novel.

    Wow, I’m so glad you posted this!!

    I love that we’re both kind of on a blogging mission to make big, frizzy silent-film style hair styles fashionable again . . . I can’t wait ’till I don’t have to straighten my bangs anymore!! :)
