Thank you all so much for your birthday wishes!! I must admit this year I was rather indifferent about my birthday (my friends tell me this isn’t unusual when one hits their twenties…), but was pleasantly surprised at how lovely Saturday and Sunday turned out to be. A girl couldn’t ask for more…

A couple days before my birthday, the mailman delivered a rather heavy box. It was my birthday gift to myself: 3 1947 issues of Seventeen magazine I won on Ebay. After finding that rather tattered copy a few weeks ago, I couldn’t resist the impulse to buy more! (I know… I’m very bad when it comes to vintage…)

Aren’t these images so inspiring? I know the 1940’s aren’t everyone’s cup-of-tea, but I have always had a soft spot for the decade’s style. Mom and I had such fun looking through these the afternoon they arrived–and getting all kinds of ideas for adding some vintage flair to outfits!

The shoes are just killing me, especially since I’ve been coveting a pair from here for years…

Here are a few other bits of 1940’s fashion inspiration you might enjoy…
cute summery outfits
lots of inspiring images from during and after the war period
a variety of images
1940’s hairstyle how-to
way out of my price range, but lots of ideas!
I have loads to post about–so many ideas floating around in my head! But alas, finals are this week and I’m a buried under studying and exams. I shall be so glad when this is over… although summer school is looming large in the near future. hehe! Have a lovely Monday!

Rhiannon added this comment on May 05 08 at 11:41 amOh wow, I had to go to your Flickr and favorite a bunch of those because they’re too wonderful. I always love ’40s teen looks best (they’re usually so much more cheerful and whimsical, and without shoulder pads!) and I never even thought about trying to track down a teen magazine from the era. Thanks a bunch for posting these!
laura added this comment on May 05 08 at 12:03 pmyour blog is so lovely and you are such an inspiration! before finding you on flickr, i didn’t love the style of the 40s/50s too much, but i think i just fell in love - i’m wishing for a beautiful dress now!
those magazines look really beautiful as well. i’m just bidding on some vintage burda sewing pattern magazines from the 60s. wish me luck! (:
